Shoestring budget. Smart, fun, touching.

Technically, the game doesn't deserve 5 stars, but its flaws didn't affect me, so 5 stars it is. I'll be brief. CONS: - It's true that the game has a lot of bugs, I even managed to find game breaking ones (that got my save file into an unwinnable state). I saved often, in different "slots", to avoid trouble. - It's also true that the game is on a smaller scale compared to Neverhood. There aren't first person MYST moments, there aren't many large, detailed environments. - The game lacks the modern feedback we're used to. You don't know what the active objects or the exits from the scene are and this may confuse you. PROS: - The puzzles are pretty good and I really liked the heavy use of backtracking and the interrelated spaces in the fortress. - The exploration felt even better because of the humour and the art style. - The story is funny, sad, dramatic, interesting. The wall of text (similar to the one in Neverhood) with the world's mythology and history is also a very interesting read. Many backers forget that The Neverhood had a budget at least 10 times bigger than the one of Armikrog. This means less time, less people to make the game. It's still a good game that will give you something other titles cannot. And it's not necessarily recommended to nostalgia-filled fans of Neverhood. I haven't actually played Neverhood. It's in my big game collection, but I didn't get to it. Still liked Armikrog.

Amazing game

Amazing game, with few bugs (no background music for most of the game in my case) as mentioned in other reviews.

Bad on Purpose???

If they offer it for free don't get it because it still costs too much for your wasted time and digital space. I think I would rather eat a box of chalk and drink battery acid than waste another minute of my life on this steaming pile of garbage. I have never given any game a 1 star review, I wish I could give this one a negative -100. I know i'm supposed to list the reason(s) I did not like the game but this one is not even worth that. I have to go now, there is a small piece of vomit in my throat put there by the memory of this game.

So far, so very good

I preface this with saying that I have played the game about 2 hours now, and I'll be updating this in the future. The long-awaited spiritual successor to the Neverhood (1996, welp) is finally here. Like its predecessor, the claymation art is simply beautiful, and I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before. A whole vibrant world created in clay, much more colorful than its predecessor. The colors are bright and each room has its own certain charm. There's small throwbacks here and there to the original Neverhood. And best of all, the quirky sense of humor is there. The world also seems a lot more expansive than the Neverhood, at least the beginning seems that way. Where the Neverhood first confined you to the first small section of the world, Armikrog seems content to let you wander around. The puzzles thus far are interesting and fair, and require just enough thought to be intriguing but haven't (yet) left me bashing my head on the wall (that's probably a good thing). I've found backtracking necessary sometimes, having missed small details the first time around. And like with Neverhood, playing with a pen and paper to write down clues is pretty much necessary. However, there are a few small problems. The responsiveness to some commands could be better: clicking a level or a tentacle of the squid-like creature, for example, don't always elicit the wanted response. The subtitles don't always line up with the voice actors, and sometimes say something different than what is actually being said. Nothing major, but enough to be a little vexing. For fans of the Neverhood, this seems like the game we have been waiting for. A solid 4.5/5 for now. I'm hoping the ending delivers. For now though, back to playing.
