The Swine are Rising!
In 2010 Frictional Games terrified the world with the cult horror Amnesia: A Dark Descent. Now they bring you a new nightmare. Created in collaboration with The Chinese Room, the studio behind Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is an intense and terrifying journey into the heart of darkness
that lurks within us all.
The year is 1899
Wealthy industrialist Oswald Mandus awakes in his bed, wracked with fever and haunted by dreams
of a dark and hellish engine. Tortured by visions of a disastrous expedition to Mexico, broken on the
failing dreams of an industrial utopia, wracked with guilt and tropical disease, he wakes into a
nightmare. The house is silent, the ground beneath him shaking at the will of some infernal machine:
all he knows is that his children are in grave peril, and it is up to him to save them.
Step back into the horror
Like The Dark Descent, this is a game driven by its story, exploration of the world and the constant
fear of the unknown. You can expect classic Amnesia gameplay, physics interaction and the
signature blend of high-end gaming with low system requirements.
Think you understand fear? Think again.
A Machine for Pigs takes both the world of Amnesia and the technology of The Dark Descent to new
heights of horror. Built using an updated version of HPL2 engine, the game features stunning visual
and environment design, incredible music and audio effects and adapted artificial intelligence. These
are all driven by a gut-wrenching, blood-curdling new story, set sixty years after the events of the
original game.
Unique game created in collaboration between two independent game companies famous for exploring the outer reaches of what games can be. Fresh and new approach to the Amnesia world while staying true to its origins.
Unique physics interaction that has been developed and improved since 2005.
Exceptional artwork and environments that run on low system specifications.
The darkest, most horrific tale ever told in a videogame. Stunning soundtrack by award-winning composer Jessica Curry.

I really wish I could have higher regards for this game. Frictional Games proved what they were capable of when they released Amnesia: The Dark Descent upon the world. It was sinister, creepy, disturbing and simply an experience not to miss. Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, however, does nothing but let the Chinese Room fall short of this in their name. For all the challenge this game will offer, and for all the freedom it lets you have while playing, you might as well just open up Youtube and watch a play-through. I actually recommend you do provided you find one that reads all the details you find, because the story is still awesome and I would be doing you a disservice if I told you to skip that. But as for the game itself, it’s just not worth it… not until it’s in the bargain bin.
This game is a masterpiece. It has beautiful level design, and great voice acting. It is just missing one thing... It needs to be scary! Yes, there was some scares here and there, but it was not even close to the scares delivered in the first game. I think they should have made the game independent and not have the name "Amnesia" infront of the main name "A Machine For Pigs". If they want to make an 2nd Amneisa, they better try a lot harder with the scares. But then again, it has a fantastic story and unbelievable level design. It is definitely better than Amnesia: The Dark Decent in which the level design, but the scares need to be a lot better!
As a lot of reviews before this one mentioned quite clearly, do not expect this to be a sequel to Amnesia.
This game is still about Lovecraftian horror stories, but you won't find challenging puzzles, gameplay is really simplified to it's core.
As the game was made by «The Chinese Room», developers of «Dear Esther», it's more a horrific narrative experience than a horror game. You will walk the streets and undergrounds of the city, fearing for monsters to appear, trying to continue your progression without getting caught.
The game is pretty intense, just do not expect Amnesia 2. Also, it might be one of the shortest of the Frictional Games.
While some of the other reviews are too harsh in my opinion, this is still very far from a true horror game to me. It is indeed very short, and while there were a couple of jump scares, it is nothing like as terrifying or engrossing as The Dark Descent was. It is extremely short on actual gameplay, but works fairly well as a sort-of-interactive storybook. It has a nice story and some good setpieces, but keep all the above in mind before buying.
