Description
Includes Jack in the Dark bonus adventure

A suspicious suicide. A chilling curse. A malevolent power. Finally, a wicked dark secret. This is Derceto, a legendary Louisiana mansion where, against your better judgment, you're drawn into a world of shadows to explore the darker side of Jeremy Hartwood's imagination.

Despite a paralyzing sense of personal danger, your quest for truth drives you to investigate the old house. But, you didn't know that, by entering Derceto, you'll be plunged into the daily nightmare that was Jeremy Hartwood's life. You weren't prepared for the torturous howls that resound from deep within its halls. You didn’t foresee the shadowy corridors that seemingly have no end. You couldn't anticipate the brooding, gloom-filled rooms, the pervasive weight of dread, the heavy sense of evil that gills the atmosphere and the very house itself.

Had you known, you might have refused this task. But alas, you accepted, and now you must make your way through this spine-tingling adventure alone... and in the dark.

The game that inspired survival horror

I'll be perfectly honest, this game aged really badly. But you got to take into account the limitations at the time. If Alone in the Dark created the survival horror genre, then later games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill perfected on it. Many people probably won't enjoy this game because of the amazing horror games that have been released since then. If you can pretend this is 1992 and there is no Resident Evil or Silent Hill, you might get some enjoyment out of Alone in the Dark, it will however take some time to get used to it.

Nostalgia!

These 3 games were probably the best childhood gaming memories I have, and still serve as the best survival horror games in existence. Although mastering the controls are more than half the battle, some of the obscure puzzle pieces involved (especially in One Eyed Jack's Revenge) make for really interesting games to play, even today. Having these all in one set is a pretty big deal. I'm glad GOG made this possible, and although mapping buttons in DOSBox can be a bit of an uphill battle, it's still worth it all!

A rare masterpiece

The original Alone in the dark belongs to a kind of horror which is really rare and which I really love. I can think only of another game of this kind, Eternal darkness, a game which is not available on computers. For this kind of horror fantasy is the most important thing, you are drawn into a world full of fascinating mysteries and eerie atmosphere. If you love the novels and the fictional world created by Lovecraft, or if you have enjoyed products like the movie "In the mouth of madness" or the game "Eternal darkness" this one is a must buy. It's also the very first modern horror game (they call it survival horror since Resident evil saga) even though it is a lot more difficult and sometimes frustrating (but that was common for the games of its era). An unforgettgable masterpiece which will be always charming as the first day it came on the stores.

One of my favorite games

This was the first of its kind. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, all of those owe it to Alone in the Dark for their success. I recall playing this as a teenager on an old (brand new back then) 486 machine. The worst part is that the game crashed if I tried to save it (I bought it off of a friend of mine who had it on 3.5 floppy). Needless to say, I spent the entire summer playing and replaying this game until I managed to get to the end it without dying. And even then, right when I torched that thing (don't want to give away any solutions) the game would stall. It wasn't until later when I bought the trilogy on CD that I was able to fully see the end.

Classic but unplayable

Useless controls- fighting is only frustrating, aiming an enemy nearly impossible. And always being hit by bullets from invisible enemys (because of the camera angle) makes this games a drag.
