CRPG CLASSIC!

One of the first games I got after getting Windows 95. A true classic of the CRPG genre. From the moment I heard that TRON-like music score on the load screen I was hooked. Can't believe I overlooked it on GOG for so long. This game is incredibly immersive considering the limitations of computing power at the time. Incredible story, music, and artwork. Well worth a run through whether for nostalgia's sake or if you've never seen it before, either way you will thoroughly enjoy it.

They don't make em like this anymore

This a rare gem among gaming, a game for all generations. Since I am 29yrs old, I did not grow up with this, infact I am the big PC gamer in the family; enamored by the many worlds that games could take us. From far off plants in a galaxy far far away to an island filled with mysteries to be solved. The games I grew I grow up playing were the humongous entertainment games especially spy Fox. My first ever RPG was final fantasy 7 follow-up with Paper Mario and the Thousand-Year door. My first PC RPG was Diablo; thus this game provided all I loved about RPG that I love and more. If you ever similar taste in games than this is the game for you.

Wonderful game

It is truelly great to see Albion make an appearence here, I just love this game, I think I played it 3 or 4 times and it still is fun. The graphics still hold up and are beautifull, the music and sounds create a great atmosphere, the world is interresting to explore with many small and bigger hidden places. The party system is well done, dungeons are fun to explore, traps to be avoided, enemys to be slain in a real cool turn based battles, several different magic users that have different spellcategorys wach once more with strengths and weaknesses, a nice storyline to go along with. even if you are sadly missing some kind of journal or log to keep track of it, a huge world to explore, many people to talk to and a ton of lore. This game has something for everyone, an rpg that makes you think before you do something, allowing you to progress if you are smart, giving you goodies for that aswell, listening to people around the world aswell as searching old mines, abandonned buildings or cursed places, aswell as traveling on the world map that allows for dynamic monster spawning, but you aren't forced to fight, clever manauvering can allow for an escape.

Probably one of the best games on here.

My first review on GoG! Do not expect any real spoilers in this review, just one small note at the bottom. Albion is a hybrid of several more and less famous games and I will start with the most popular one, Ultima I-VII. Most of the game you play in a overhead perspective of you, your party and your surroundings with a very similar view of what Ultima VI and VII did. However, at some places during the game, for instance in Dungeons and Cities, all of them very different in layout and style where you move your party in first person. What people didn't quite knew is that "Albion" was to be the last game of the so called "Amber" triology with two games released for the Amiga called Ambermoon and Amberstar. The company with the name Thalion shut down in 1994 but Blue Byte, who're probably most known for their Die Siedler/Serf City games hired most game designers from Thalion to create the homage to these Ultima-esque RPG games which is known as Albion. And ho'boy what a homage this one truely is. When a fight happenes, the real-time part pauses and switches to something akin to a chess board, where you can see the members of your party and your enemies, and you can assign your party-members commands in a turn based fashion. The battles, like the game itself, are rather calm. With this said Albion is not an easy game if you do not understand its principles and is about as long as The Witcher 3 is, if you skip most side quests. If there is one thing that isn't this-good it is the music, which are kind of sub-par with mostly simple tunes and "beeping". The game would've benefitted a lot from the Paula Soundchip from the Amiga instead of something that reminds me of cheaper MIDI tunes. Very worth the price. SPOILER: Albion also has one of the best highlights of any game that I've ever seen, it begins during the middle part of and turns the Story into something completly unique. Seriously though, you have to play it to believe this. You will know when you reach it.

An absolutely classic.

This is what old school RPG's are all about. A game with amazing depth, great mechanics, memorable characters, excellent writing, great combat, and lots of exploration and rewards. Yes, the graphics are dated, but beyond that, this game holds up better than most modern RPG's. It's about quality and substance, not flash and spectacle. Though, for the time it came out, it was actually one of the better looking RPG's on the market. Enjoy an epic story blending sci-fi and mysticism, wonderful twists and turns... all in a beautifully detailed world full of lore and secrets to uncover. If you're a fan of the old school RPG's, from the Gold Box D&D titles to the original Fallout and Baldur's Gate games... then you owe it to yourself to grab this absolute gem of a game.
