"Totally did not inspired me to make my movie about anthropomorphic alien cats living in communion with nature and how a group of humans help them to fight against an evil mining corporation trying to destroy their planet for profit. "

There is a lot to like with this game, but there is also a lot that can and most likely will put you of. The unique story, setting, world building, storytelling and the beautiful 2D-graphics are amazing. It was a very ambitious game for it´s time and it shows.
Negatives are the butt-ugly, unpractical, clumsy, unnessesary 3D-engine, and the unforgiving difficulty at the beginning. My guess is that these very high barriers to enter an otherwise wonderful classic game will most likely deter anyone who has no nostalgia for it.
I want to extend my big thank you to GOG.com for your great cultural achievement in making old games available in this way. I had never heard of "Albion" before, so I have no nostalgic feelings or anything, but somehow I found it here recently, and I got the impression that it could be something I would really like. I just finished it, and being very happy, I felt should write a few words here.
I am very fond of role-playing games, and even though I like fantasy and horror very much, I am most of all a science fiction fan. However, science fiction RPGs seem to be much more rare than fantasy ones, so I am always excited when I find something like this. Even though "Albion" plays a lot like a fantasy RPG, the overarching story is certainly science fiction, and that in itself makes a lot of difference for me. The story and world-building is amazing, and as a huge Phantasy Star fan I really enjoyed the shifts between the top down 2D and first-person 3D perspectives.
The rather high difficulty level combined with very little hand-holding made the experience truly enjoyable. It is a good thing that there are many save slots, because a few times I realized that I had acted too rashly and wanted to go back to an older save in order to prepare better before entering certain places. I advice players to be patient, do things carefully and save often.
A highly recommended gem for people who like old-school RPGs combining science fiction and fantasy.
From the creators of Amberstar and Ambermoon, Albion is a spiritual successor to those two games, and can be characterized in one word - originality. One of the best RPG games offers world full of creatures not seen in any other games, vast range of spells and items, great sci-fi/fantasy story and masterpiece graphics and music, turn based combat system great for large battles, and an open world ready to explore. A combination of 2D and 3D view is perfect for cozy houses and large cities, respectively.
This game comes with a DOSBox and a disk image, although there is a Windows, Linux and Pandora port. More information on http://albion-hra.wz.cz . Also I've made an unofficial patch for the game fixing some minor text and graphical issues, you can check it here https://github.com/IllidanS4/Albion-1.40/releases . There is also a wiki created for the game: http://albionworld.wikia.com/wiki/ .
I had almost lost hope to see this on GoG! I initially found this game through a demo disc in a PC gaming magazine, and played it over and over again as a kid. PC gaming was rare in my country, but out of pure luck, I found a single copy of the game hidden in the back of an old computer repair shop, and played through it, not even knowing any English.
I clicked everything, exhausted every dialogue, and was facinated by everything in the game - thanks to the colors, the art, the characters, stories, and the different perspectives in which you could explore the world. I barely survived battles, having nightmares from the monster encounters and the strange environments! I can't thank BlueByte enough for this game, and I can't wait to revisit this beautiful world!
