One of the best classic RPGs

I used to play this game years ago with my brother, and it was such an amazing experience. The game was truly a challenge, in large part due to the fact that you were punished for "farming" levels. I remember my first couple of attempts I would try to farm a lot, and then the enemies would become very powerful (I think some type of poison damage or something that you couldn't heal). Once you got the hang of it, it stayed tough. But it was also really engaging and brought you into the world.

Sehr spannend

Gut: + Party mit 8 Charakteren, von denen man 6 zu Beginn frei erstellt. Die anderen zwei kann man aus vorgefertigten Charakteren mit Persönlichkeit aufnehmen, die man im Spielverlauf trifft (und auch tauschen). + Enorm viele verschiedene Klassen, Völker, Zauber und Charakterwerte + Freie Erkundung der Spielwelt + Viele Geheimnisse, versteckte Quests etc. Mitdenken lohnt sich! + Gute, taktische Kämpfe + Kombination aus Mittelalter, Fantasy und moderner Technik (z.B. Computer in Burgen) + Viele spielerische Möglichkeiten - man kann z.B. Frieden zwischen verschiedenen Völkern schließen oder sie gegenseitig in den Krieg führen + Spielerisch ist die Haupt-Quest gut: Man muss einen bestimmten Charakter bzw. Objekt finden, es gibt verschiedene Lösungswege hierfür, man muss dabei mitdenken und die richtigen Personen befragen + Man muss Charaktere durchs eingeben bestimmter Stichwörter befragen - so kann man auf Geheimnisse und besondere Quests stoßen, wenn man schlaue Fragen stellt und mitdenkt. Schlecht: - Feinde respawnen ständig und skalieren mit dem Spielerlevel (nicht endlos, aber je nach Gebiet sehr lange), sodass man ständig kämpfen muss, wenn man hin- und herreist. Irgendwann werden die Kämpfe trotz des guten Kampfsystems nervig. - Hauptstory ist von der Erzählung her nichts Besonderes.

Truly a Hidden Gem of CRPG History!

There is something about this game that is a strange clash of the old and new. there's 3D Environments, but not entirely reasonable looking ones. There's the Dizzying variety of Classes, Spells, and Races to choose from, but little to no explanation of what these systems do outside of Fanmade help. It's a fully fledged turn based RPG, but it was released at quite literally the worst time possible to do so (The rising age of FPS and Console Gaming). It's a game stuck in the middle of these ages, and it shows. What's Good: Wholly reasonable graphical fidelity/compatibility on modern systems with Nglide. It also runs fairly well on modern laptops/mid-range computers. Fantastic Turn Based RPG Goodness. Easily the best mix of Old/New School Turn Based RPG I have played. Outstanding situational Voice Acting for characters in your party. All Party members' appearances/ voices are customizable at any time. Really makes the experience memorable! Plenty of community support if you are stuck or want mods that smooth out the generous jank. What's Bad: Gruelling Early game Grind that can easily turn away newcomers. I don't know how anyone Ironmans this one. You will get positively wiped out by some enemies if you tackle stuff in the wrong order. Clunkly mouse/keyboard driven UI for battles. It takes some getting used to, but try to use as much keyboard as possible to speed up battles. Intresting but somewhat lackluster plot/lore. It works, but it's not all that endearing. Mild amounts of moon logic for in-game item combinations/questlines. There is a journal, but it's not all that useful. You will consult online help a good deal if you don't want to get frustrated. Overall, I would say this is an excellent game to have a slow-burn period of play. Dive in when you feel like it, and enjoy a little peice of history!

Great RPG

This is what a PC RPG should be. I can't quite explain how, but you really do feel connected to the characters. They need to do a faithful re-make with better graphics, but after a while you don't even focus on them being outdated. The gameplay is great. I wish I had tried it sooner!

Fond memories

I grew up with the Dark Eye and Wizardry - two amazing series. It wasn't until Wizardry 8 that I however fell genuinely in love with the Wizardry series. It is unique, it is well written, the music is great and the dialogue and characters are extremely well written. Combat mechanics are good, and impact of leveling characters can be "felt" properly. Graphics are only okay, but the overall presentation, content and music really set this gem apart from other games of the time!
