Meh.
I loved the Wizardry series ever since I played the first one on the original NES, and I adored Wizardry 7/Gold. I looked forward to Wizardry 8, more and more with each glimpse released. When I finally played Wizardry 8, though. I was disappointed. The character advancement and such were okay. What I truly hated was the system whereby all monsters in an area are automatically made to equal your character. To me, it made any efforts to level your characters rather pointless. If the monsters are always going to equal you, going up any levels and/or power is kinda silly.

The best party-based RPG of all time.
The balance of this game is amazing. There are 11 races and 15 professions, and not one of these are useless or bad or overpowered, they are simply different. You can play through the game with a given party, perfect your gameplay and be convinced it's the best way to play, only to restart the game with a completely different composition and be baffled by how much fun the game still is. The areas feel unique and different, the enemies are diverse and the quests & NPCs add flavor. You can import your party from Wizardry 7 if that's your thing (for a truly marathon experience you can start in Wizardry 6, finish the game then import into W7 and then once you finished that game, into W8). The loot system is generally decent, however if you're hunting for some of the most elusive high-power gear you will probably want to read up on the loot system, especially the "level sensor", and only enter those specific areas once you're certain you know what you're doing.

great rpg
this game is really great, i got the original imported version as a kid for my birthday, one of the best presents i have gotten. There are vast options for your party, a lot of fun spells, fun items like bard instruments or engineer machines. But also great serious loot like the black sword fang, a lightning sword, paralyzing lances etc. There is much to explore and there are great rewards for doing so. But there are also terrible dangers. This game has a LOT of enemies, and they each have their own little tactics. You will start to hate or fear a few, you will look over your shoulder and hope that big pack of wasps isnt coming for you. Certain places also have special encounters that are really difficult, but you will feel really good when beating them. Also, the music in this game is really great. Overall, the game just has this vibe when i play it...it draws me into its world.
