Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate

This is my first ever Warhammer 40,000 game and i find it a very solid turn based strategy game. You have squads specialized in tasks and each squad member has a name, you can choose their equipment and even switch them between squads to make a team with the max AP possible. The map has levels you can switch at any time with the keyboard, like, you can have a fight in level 2 and then press 4 to see how things are going at that level. The space marines can walk, crouch and run, look around and carry destructive weapons and grenades. Also they can interact with the map making the interaction button available when it is possible. A true gem of old. For me it is just a very enjoyable turn based game i would recommend to anyone who likes this kind of games.

This game takes heavy inspiration from the original X-COM, but that's not a bad thing. It doesn't use the globe view of X-COM, and doesn't have base building, but it does focus more squarely on the tactical combat and giving you specific mission maps to clear out. Your squad gains levels, have different stats, have different classes (which is a nice new addition), and can be equipped with gear in different ways. The game ramps up with each mission, bringing in new challenges but also new options for you to play with and figure out. One thing that this game definitely brings over from X-COM however is when your guy is dead, he's DEAD. There's no coming back. If you go around a bad corner or charge in against an enemy you shouldn't have, the game has no problem taking you out. Smartly moving your units across the battlefield is critical. While the UI does take a little getting used to, once you get the hang of it you can move around your units pretty quickly. The graphics are fairly charming, not beautiful, but it is 3D rendered models captured as pixelated images to put together the animations that I personally enjoy a lot. A little blurrier than Diablo 2/Baldur's Gate, but it works. It's a solid game and while you don't have to like 40k to get enjoyment out of it, it's definitely a lot more fun if you are. Who doesn't want to romp around in classic 40k lore, ugly weapons and all? Good stuff.

First of all, after so many years, this game (or at least this version) works on Windows 10, and doesn't crash, managed to finish the first mission. This is a great turn based tactical game, which intruduced me to the warhammer 40k universe. The music and sound effects are great and the graphics are fine too (it wasn't the best, even in 1998 when it was released). The combat is similar to the classics at that time, like fallout 1-2, jagged alliance and ufo/xcom series. The missions are (so far) linear, you complete one after another. I'd highly recommend it to WH40k and turn-based tactics fans

love this game played it when it first came out. Now it actualy works on windows 10 and its fkc awesome. to get it to work you have to make a new folder on your c drive and name it CGOG Games WH40k Chaos Gate then install it to that folder...boom!! someone needs to make an updated verson of this game with the other races and not make it lame like most the new warhammer games and no micro transactions biiiiiich!!!

Do Not Buy if you were hoping to run this in Windows 10. It ran fine for me in Win 8.1 but no longer. Compatibility mode does not work. GOG will not honour their refund policy because it doesn't say Win 10 in the required specs for the game on the store page. That said, great game. Warhammer X-Com, really, with a great soundtrack and some cool immersion. Nostalgia ftw, but ...yeah, won't run in Win 10.
