Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate

So, after a lot of hours I can say this is fantastic game. There is a lot of good things in this game. Campaign slowly introduces new unit types and weapons and difficulty is adjusted correspondingly. Have no mistake, this is old school game, and you will have to spend some time to learn how to play it. Missions are really fun and challenging and you can get by using number of different strategies. Sound effects and music are just fantastic. Marine chants just put you in the mood and bring a lot to the atmosphere. Considering how old game is, graphics are just fine in my opinion. On downside, I had couple issues trying to start game (installed it on a path which had too many characters :) ), then I had known issue with slow animations. After deleting game's windows registry entries, and reinstalling game, I luckily no longer had any issues (on Win 10). Game also suffers from lack of some quality of life features, like saving squad configuration, some movement issues etc., but can be overlooked.

Runs fine on Win10 here without using that wrapper that was posted. Tried the wrapper anyway and it caused the game to crash right after the intro movie. Removed the wrapper and it runs fine so maybe gog did some tweaking. If you like tactical strategic games this is a good game for you. I owned this game back when it first came out and a couple of other Random Games games that are similar to this. Soldiers at War (gog should try and get this working on Win10 too as it is good) and Squad Leader (had a crash bug and was never fixed). Games is old but still worth playing so long as you don't mind 1024x768 res. Battles play similar to Xcom (the original).

I have tried to get this to work on various virtual machines without success. No incantation or rite of maintenance would appease the machine spirit to run this program in an acceptable way. Finally I will be able to finish what I began in the last century. It is working great for me and actually is as good as I remember it to be. Also it is the only 40k computer game besides fire warrior to properly depict bolter fire as slow and devastating as opposed to the machine gun bolters relic has been showing.

This game is exactly as I remember it 20+ years ago. If you have a brain, then you can run a capatibility test and get the correct launch OS for the game so that it works. This literally takes 10 seconds to do. The people that are giving the game one star are the m*r*ns that cannot follow instructions.
