archaven: Really stupid they would listen to people who are offended with the game when they aren't suppose to play the game in the first place, religiously.

They can ffs, play the game.. but why they have to ruined it for others?

ZakKa: If this ruins the game for you you must be out of your mind
It's just a rug textures design resembling slightly of a mosque in A GAME. It must be out of the minds of the muslims friend who demanded it removed.
All said and done, chances are before the patch no-one - and I mean *no-one* - would even have noticed or connected that rug to anything. Now that it's been brought into the spotlight, as it were, we'll get uproar and furore over it having been there in the first place.

Fixing mistakes is fine. Shooting oneself in the foot..... not so great.

lol, well said, i was thinking about the same thing. if they have worded the patch notes along the lines of; "fixed various instances of texture misplacement" or something like that, this non-issue would stay that way, instead of escalating into a religious shitstorm :)

Not necessarily. In that case, someone playing the unpatched version in the future could notice those textures and complain or, even worse, start writing articles about how CD Project hates Islamic culture blah blah blah. Of course, it's still possible, but it's much better to explain things in advance than to respond to angry complaints later.

well, i guess it's a lose-lose situation in this case. as it is now, people suggest CDPR censored the game to accomodate the needs of muslims, etc..

i believe it was an honest mistake on their part, now they caused an uproar because of their honesty. messed up situation really.
I'm waiting for a mod that includes every possible islamic themed textures that could humanly be put into the game.... And check what happens then :P
Why not just have it as a choice?, allow the player to remove it if it deems offensive!

Because CDPr wanted pretty, oriental rugs, not prayer rugs. It didn't fit their design standards.
If you'd have taken a couple of Law classes, you would have guessed what might happen if someone just sue the CDPR or some posters in this thread. You should pay attention to these kind of things. This game's project costed about 6m $ as i read, if there's an article about a religious symbol in a brothel in TW2, CDPR might have troubles both financially and about law side.

It's a simple mistake (i didn't even call it a mistake but well) but even some coffee companies lost millions for not typing "do not drink while the product is too hot" on the coffee cup.

Good that theres no canibalism in TW2, some other major religion might get offended that it resemblance theyre simbolic rituals of human flesh eating and blood drinking ;].

This is exactly it, as far as I can tell. It's not so much about offense, because clearly CDP has no problems putting lots of controversial topics in their game. It has lots of nudity, sex, foul language, racism and politics. If they wanted an islamic prayer rug there, I'm sure they would have put it there and not care about what anything says. The point is that they didn't realise they put a prayer rug there, and wanted just a generic exotic rug. So, made aware of their (really minor, but easily fixable) mistake, they fixed it.

Perhaps they should have phrased it differently in the patch notes. That would have saved a lot of crap over nothing.
This discussion has been going off the basis, in part, of a comment from a CDPr employee on the patch notes. He calls it a carpet.

I am no expert on art, Islamic or otherwise; but I don't notice any particularly Arabic looking rugs or carpets in either brothel.

What I do see are what I would call "tapestries" in frames; one in Flotsam and a pair in small tent at the Camp Followers. They look like partitions or screens. On close inspection, they clearly have a minaret with a crescent on top.

I am thinking that is what is at issue. Not a prayer rug, but an symbol that simply is out of place in the Witcher universe.

Who said they did?
CDPR took something out that they didn't intended to be in at all. They corrected a mistake. The fact that the mistake revolved around an Islamic texture or whatever is incidental.

If the model of a beach towel with Mickey Mouse motifs had creeped into the master by mistake they would also correct that.
