A farewell to arms promo!

The Arma Series, that is Arma Gold Edition, Arma: Cold War Assault, and Arma 2: Combined Operations (complete with the Operation Arrowhead expansion), providing the ultimate mod-enabled first person-perspective military simulation experience, is available up to 80% off on GOG.com. That's only $8.17 for the whole set of three games, for the next 72 hours.

War has always been, and probably always will be, one of the predominant themes in computer games. From 8-bit systems to contemporary monster gaming rigs you'll have simulators, strategy games, and war-inspired arcade titles. But there's only one type of game that could let you really see war as a first-hand gritty and immersive experience. An FPS, first person perspective shooter. Again, there are many levels of realism throughout the genre. Some of the war FPS' tend to focus on storytelling, using heavy scripting to deliver a cinematic experience. Others don't try to hide the fact, that the war you're seeing isn't real and that the main goal is to have fun while playing. And there's the Arma Series.

Arma Series is a game series that will make you feel like an actual combatant on one of the modern-day military missions. A game that will amaze you with its level of realism in recreating actual weapons, military gear, ballistics, and battlefield conditions. A game that will challenge you in ways no other wargame ever could. Dropping you in the middle of a fictional conflict, that feels more real than most things you see on the news, it proves to be the ultimate modern-day military simulation that you can play outside of actual military VR training facilities. Arma 2: Combined Operations allows for massive multiplayer matches that can host up to 50 players simultaneously, and the Operation Arrowhead expansion that, on top of adding another campaign to the game, provides extensive mod compatibility, this is the FPP wargame you want to get, if you mean business.

On top of that, Arma 2: Combined Operations is required to run DayZ, the most popular game modification since the infamous Hot Coffe. What? You don't know what DayZ is? Don't fret--we've got you covered.

Do you think you can handle real virtual warfare? Find out if you really know which side of the assault rifle you should point at the enemies in the complete Arma Series, for only $8.17 on GOG.com. The special promo lasts until Saturday, June 7, at 9:59AM GMT. Games also available separately with lower discount rate. The games already owned on GOG.com count towards the higher discount.

Important note: This is a last chance promo, as Arma Gold Edition, Arma: Cold War Assault, and Arma 2: Combined Operations will be removed from sales on GOG.com on June 22, along with the remaining Bohemia Interactive title: Original War. If you buy (or have already bought) any of these games, they will remain on your account "shelf", so you'll be still able to access and download them.

Zacron: My GF finally tried to redeem the Fallout Codes and they were expired, so it has at least happened once.

simon_vd: Fallout Codes were free no?
I think they said that they won't work after time or something.
Correct

Good thing I get paid this week
Sad news. I was also hoping that one day ArmA III will become available here at GOG.com too. Apparently, Bohemia Interactive is moving exactly into the opposite direction, going Steam only. Well, saves me some money then.
I'll think about it. Sad to see more games being removed from the catalog.
If can't have ArmA, let's vote for Airborne Ranger and Special Forces. Classic military action ftw.
Gees is everyone going to pull a BethZen? I don't like unimaginative modern-day shooters but this is unwelcome news nonetheless.
high rated
If you don't know what ArmA is, chances are very high it is not for you. These are not shooters. They are not even games. They are game engines that simulate many aspects of war up to a very large scale. It really helps if you have knowledge of actual warfare, not just going with what you have "learned" from games and movies.

There is no comparison. ArmA is pretty much a genre of it's own.

As for mutliplayer: There will be no server browser in the game, but you can still connect directly to known IPs. This is how you play multiplayer normally anyhow, you need to find a serious community with a nice set of patches and mods that play organised games. ArmA multiplayer games are usually cooperative scenarios, these are not games where you join a random public server to shoot other players and capture abstract objectives. Personally I've mostly played ArmA 2 with friends on private servers using our favourite combinations of mods, just driving around together conquering villages and enjoying true emergent gameplay that creates war stories to remember.

Don't go into ArmA half-assed, get these games because you're really interested in military stuff and want to get into military fantasies (rather than playing an abstract game).

or maybe Delta Force?
I actually don't really care about Arma titles, not my taste in games, but Original War is a loss.

I wish Bohemia all the best on Steam, although I bought all 3 Arma titles only because they were selling them on GOG. I
I wanted Arma II on GOG but I hoped that DLC would be available in the future to buy a full.package.
Now, I prefer to buy them on Steam, just to be sure to have the DLC and the newest updates.
Sad day for GOG catalog !
A sad news indeed. This will bring the total number of games removed from GOG catalogue in 2014 to 8 ( Re-Volt, Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures, Guilty Gear X2 #Reload, Guilty Gear Isuka according to MaGog data + 3 ArmA games and Original War). This is a little worrying, since that is almost half of the games ever removed from GOG (a total of 19 since the beginning) and we are only halfway through the year. On the other hand, we get a constant influx of new releases and GoG is doing their best to mitigate the negative impact of such situations (by offering promos like this one), so let's not jump to conclusions too early here. Not to mention it's ultimately the developer's decision and I'm sure that if GOG could have done anything to stop a game from being removed, they would.

Never quite took to those, they were too Chuck Norrissy for me.

Had no idea ReVolt was gone until you posted this.

Zacron: My GF finally tried to redeem the Fallout Codes and they were expired, so it has at least happened once.
There was a specific reason for that.
Normally simulations like this don't appeal to me; and I certainly wouldn't buy these on steam if I can avoid it. No thank you.

On the other hand, as this is the last opportunity to get them without these titles being riddled with some form of DRM, I'll take 'em right now.

Thank you again GOG. You're the best...

Well, next to your ever supportive, loyal and conscientious community.
