Free Mars, or die trying!

Red Faction, a critically acclaimed and extremely revolutionary *wink* first-person shooter with destructible terrain and a close-range hard Sci-Fi setting, is available 70% off on GOG.com, as a part of our Red Faction 1+2 Bundle deal. That's only $2.99 for the first 72 hours!

You are Parker, a weary miner who works for the corrupt Ultor Corporation. You reside on Mars, sometime in the future, and when a plague spreads through the mining community, some of the Ultor employees uncover a massive conspiracy. Thus ensues a battle by a group of lowly workers, provoked to uprise by your own actions and to expose the deadly experiments Ultor has unleashed onto its work force. History will judge you. Make sure your faction wins, so its your people who get to write the history books.

Red Faction was a very big leap forward in the FPS genre. It introduced many new technical features such as location-based damage system, real-time skeletal deformation, advanced physics simulation, destructible environment and more. The unprecedented (at the time) interaction with the environment creates a very strong feeling of immersion that is very impressive even by today's standards. With an engaging story to tell, a unique set of features such as location-based damage system, real-time skeletal deformation, operational land, sea, and air vehicles, advanced physics simulation, and destructible environment, it's safe to say the game well deserved all the critical acclaim it got.

Play your part in the history of Mars in Red Faction, for only $2.99 on GOG.com. The special 70% off release bundle offer lasts only until Friday, February 14, at 10:59AM GMT. The games are also available separately, 60% off.
Thanks for nice release . Have both games on disk so will nab both :)
Wow gog.com .. I certainly wasn't expecting one of my favorite games ever to show up today. I always thought to myself that when this came to gog I would be incredibly thrilled and happy. I am. Thank you.

Me too!!! But it's off topic.

So back to the topic I read mediocre reviews for the first game and negative reviews for the second. Do these two games worth the $6 for single player campaign only?

Any chance to get the soundtrack on bonus contents, only manual is what we get?

Nah, not OT :p - http://www.gog.com/forum/general/release_red_faction/post55
I must admit I am a little sad that this isn't "Z", since it is a little higher-up on the wishlist, but certainly great to get these two.

Hopefully any graphical glitches have been sorted out, as far as GOG's tech power goes.

ThomNG: Enjoy the first 2 parts of the Red Faction series here on GOG.com :)
Greetings from the Nordic Games office.
Thank you! :) Hope more highly-desired classics for which Nordic has the publishing rights are on their way!

Far out. I have heard so much about these titles but I don't know actually know anything about them. :P My first impressions from the screen shots are very 'Half-Life-Esk'. At that price they sell themselves but anyone really bored want to tell me more about them, good and bad, before I fork over my money?

Yes I could read the reviews but the only GOG reviews I trust anymore are the ones for Keane.
Nice promo release.
The games are not the very best but the RF 1 was the first FPS with destructible environment even if they didn't use it well. So...omg, my children and my grandchildren must work hard to reduce my backlog...wait i don't have children, can someone borrow me a timeturner?

Impaler26: Not quite my cup of tea but it's still good to see the Red Faction games here on GOG.

Watch the reviews I posted on page 1. =)
I do not claim the games to be as good as Half Life but they are still very good.

Very good is good enough. The only problem is with my 'finger slicing accident' yesterday playing a FPS is going to be near impossible for a few days.

Thanks Dot...errr I mean Strijkbout.
I don't like this game. I was bored most of the time when I played it, the terrain deformation was very limited, almost completely useless and not much fun. Driving vehicles was boring too, for them being quite slow and it is almost always better to go on foot.
Then there was those annoying things like enemies one-shotting me with railgun even when they were standing with their backs to me and talking to someone else. (Admittedly I played on hard and it could be different on normal but it was stupid anyway)
I would take almost any other shooter from that time or even older any time over this.

When I learnt I am not able to run RF2 without limiting my PC to 2GB RAM I immediately gave up on it after disliking this one.

I'm sorry but I can't agree with you.

I never played this back in the day but I've always wanted to give it a go. Now I've just sunk in about an hour into this game already and made a considerable amount of progress. I find it quite enjoyable.

I recommend to anyone who want's a good classic, if even a bit simplistic shooter a go, and you might as well take advantage of the 70% promo while your at it. Though plenty will probably purchase these at the full price!

Thank you again, Nordic!

No one says you have to. :-)

It's always better to have more opinions and I know myself that most people like it and I am fine with it. :-)
Doesn't change the fact I don't, though.
