2011 has been a fantastic year for GOG.com, let's make it even better and make the last push to achieve the 6 million unique downloaded games milestone.

During our presentation at the CD Projekt Fall 2011 Conference we've shared some numbers that show how successful this year was for GOG.com, all that was possible thanks to you - our great community. One of the big milestones we'd like to celebrate with you is the 6 million unique downloaded games! Help us achieve this number and we'll launch a time-limited special offer for all GOG.com users!

Note that when we say "unique games downloaded," that means redownloading games that you have already downloaded before won't increment the counter.

When the counter on the main page of the website hits 6 million, two exciting things will happen. First off, the lucky user who downloaded our 6 millionth unique game will receive everything that's currently in the catalog, absolutely free! Secondly, everyone who has an account on GOG.com will be able to download Broken Sword: Shadow of The Templars Director’s Cut for free, thanks to Sir Charles Cecil and Revolution Software. The offer will be valid only for 48 hours starting from hitting the milestone, so be sure to check GOG regularly or follow us on and [url=https://www.facebook.com/gogcom]Facebook. Let's get cracking to unlock this achievement as soon as possible - it's all in your hands now!

yyahoo: I'm confused. Are we talking about the downloading of previously purchased games for the first time or actual new purchases? Heck, I've got 50+ games that I've purchased but haven't downloaded yet. If it's the former, I guess I should wait to download anything until the counter gets near 6,000,000 and then go on a sudden downloading spree. I suspect, however, that this is merely worded in a confusing way and that this is really about the 6,000,000th *purchase*. Clarification from GOG would be nice.
If you already bought the game, but haven't downloaded it yet, this counts towards the 6 unique game downloads.

keeveek: I already envy the guy who downloads 6th million game... :D
I don't. That person will never be seen or heard from again :p

I don't want to be that guy.

Ah, good thing I got a couple of titles I haven't DL'd yet, so I if I manage to lurk around at the right time, I'll try to get it all.

taczillabr: Kurina, once again. =p

Or other female gamer would be nice, just saying.

DrIstvaan: Why exactly a female gamer? I don't think a gamer's gender should affect his/her chances in any way (and not only in this case).
Or were you just trying to be courteous?
He's probably just trying to track down the ladies of GOG, since generally speaking we are a quiet bunch. ;)

Congrats to whoever gets the lucky 6 millionth download! Also, congrats to GOG for doing so well and staying awesome all these years. Can't wait to see what the future holds.

That's a very interesting way of doing the promo. I thought for sure that GOG was using the promotion as a way of driving new sales (which is a brilliant idea). I'm a little concerned, as a previous poster mentioned, that the only effect of this is to bring the GOG download servers to a screaming halt as number 6,000,000 approaches. Oh well, thanks for the promo! I'll definitely be angling for the winning download!!

Nothing special about it, just that I reminded of the first winner of such a prize, which was Kurina IIRC, and I found that to be nice.

Of course the gender won't affect the chances, it's just that I'm "teaching" my girlfriend into PC games and sometimes I think that more women would appreciate the story aspect of old games rather than the current generic games; as an example the D&D games on sale. Growing a new audience, word of mouth.

Wait, wouldn't it be 6M unique games bought in that case? TheEnigmaticT and the news post make it sound like it's only a "download" if you download it.

GOG.com: the lucky user who downloaded our 6 millionth unique game will receive everything that's currently in the catalog, abslutely free!

Lexor: Will that be the person who starts 6M download OR the one who ends his/her download successfully as 6M one? In other words what counts: start or finish?
I think i see you trying to be sneaky (wait until almost 6 million and then go crazy in the downloader. :P)

However, I believe it is started downloads.
Smart idea for a promotion. I bet the number of sales will spike dramatically as we get close to the milestone. Is the counter on the front page an actual counter updated in real time or is it just symbolic?

Edit: Also, holy shit. 6 million downloads is a lot. Does that number include the free games?

So is this the six millionth initiated download or six millionth completed download. Wanting to see if I need to have Ultima 4 waiting in the wings, or if it doesn't matter.

edit: See it has been asked while I was typing this.

Cook and I have been told different things, apparently. Let me figure out who's right and then get back to you.
6 million unique downloads and we still have companies like Ubisoft who beat the customer down with restrictive DRM. This should go to show the big publishers that there are legit customers willing to pay for a great product. All we want are good prices and not to be treated like a thief in the waiting.

Congrats GoG. You guys deserve all the praise, money, and customer loyalty that you have over the last 3 years. Here's to hoping for many more.

Well, tell me, who will not try to do that?

Also, because you mentioned it: did you mean only downloads done with use of GOG downloader counts?
I've finally found a reason to add Teenagent to my account!
