2011 has been a fantastic year for GOG.com, let's make it even better and make the last push to achieve the 6 million unique downloaded games milestone.

During our presentation at the CD Projekt Fall 2011 Conference we've shared some numbers that show how successful this year was for GOG.com, all that was possible thanks to you - our great community. One of the big milestones we'd like to celebrate with you is the 6 million unique downloaded games! Help us achieve this number and we'll launch a time-limited special offer for all GOG.com users!

Note that when we say "unique games downloaded," that means redownloading games that you have already downloaded before won't increment the counter.

When the counter on the main page of the website hits 6 million, two exciting things will happen. First off, the lucky user who downloaded our 6 millionth unique game will receive everything that's currently in the catalog, absolutely free! Secondly, everyone who has an account on GOG.com will be able to download Broken Sword: Shadow of The Templars Director’s Cut for free, thanks to Sir Charles Cecil and Revolution Software. The offer will be valid only for 48 hours starting from hitting the milestone, so be sure to check GOG regularly or follow us on and [url=https://www.facebook.com/gogcom]Facebook. Let's get cracking to unlock this achievement as soon as possible - it's all in your hands now!
like sands through the hourglass so are the days of our lives

jorlin: 5 samples is not enough to make a reliable projection, but based on your spreadsheet, it shows a more-or-less linear progression during the weekend.
I say 5 samples may be sufficient, depending on the system being modeled. I would assume that actual downloads would vary periodically, like Steam's User Activity. [Please forgive the link to a competing digital game service]

Maybe the linearity is due to the processing GOG performs while (hopefully) converting the downloads to the approximation presented on the homepage?

Anyway, I added more samples to the spreadsheet and my updated estimate still puts the 6M download at Thursday (9/29) around 8AM CDT (08:12, +/- some error).

Edit: See adjusted estimate and spreadsheet instead

Updated OpenOffice 6M Download Spreadsheet (ODS 30KB).

Edit: For some reason, I keep typing "sales" when I mean "downloads" in my posts and spreadsheets

summitus: I'm sorry but I reckon this countdown is BS , there is no way they are selling a game every second , maybe if it was Steam I would believe it ... hard to believe how many people on this site believe everytning they read on here .. lol
Just a thought. At the current rate (1/3 downloads/s) there would be 10 518 975 downloads a year.
The rate of dowloads/minute has decreased. Probably they got the message that we are not so naive.
What are the odds we hit 6M at The Witcher 2.0 release?

If this happens, they should give the 2.0 update to everyone for free as long as they own the game. :)

Oh, wait a minute...

What the hell are you talking about ? It is absolutely normal that the counter tempo varies, it has been explained several times how this counter works, and people who still believe it's a fake must be retarded... Do you also believe that 9/11 was a state conspiracy ? ;-)

EDIT : No insult intended, before someone starts saying that... It was just a reference to the South Park show (in "The Mystery of the Urinal Deuce"). It is just that I don't understand why people still think the 6M counter is a fake...

well also the promo had ended (was going to buy neverwinter nights but too late) and no new release (today) so tommorow might jump up a bit again.

No, we're all waiting till Thursday morning so we can get download 6 million, that's why the counter's slowing down. ;)
heck we will reach 6M well in the night (cet).
oh well...
Downloads are pretty slow on my connection, but nevertheless, doing my part to increase the counter, albeit rather s...l....o...w...l...y.....
The counter has sped up. GOG has Florida-d the count.

Same here! Sadly I have my old connection in effect until saturday. My old subscription had a download-cap and, that still doesn't get reset until the end of the month... yay slowass internet...
My connection will be bogged down with a 30GB install of a non-GOG game but I'll still download a few to add to the counter. :)
Who else thinks this countdown is gonna hit 6mil when they're sleeping or at school/work/etc?
I don't care what anyone says, I'm gonna stay glued to the monitor until I ensure wether or not I'll get every last game. Maybe worsen my mild cold so I can ensure I can stay home to be able to do it? :P
