Pretty much, clickbait journalism at its finest. Kotaku writes an article based on rumor and innuendo.

1) Some GoG employee gets laid off probably because he has no programming skills and worked a "niche" department such as say language support for a language GoG might be depreciating. His skills do not fit in elsewhere so instead of moving to another department, he is laid off.

2) This employee cries about his layoff and the layoffs of about a dozen people in a similar position whose department is being streamlined and who have no other useful skills.

3) Kotaku equates this with all their other industry layoff reporting like EA or Blizzard and jumps to the conclusion that something is wrong with GoG.

4) Then Kotaku does what they usually do, pad an article with guesses and reckless speculation.

5) Other clickbait websites see the article and follow Kotaku's lead, treating everything including the guesses and reckless speculation as "fact".

And here we are with the GoG forums spammed with threads about this all because Kotaku's "journalism" is based primarily on one person's opinion after being laid off.

It doesn't seem like you're actually buying anything from the best platform that exists.

Unless CDPR starts running into financial trouble, there is nothing to worry about in terms of backing up one's games. GoG is still only one division of the larger company CD Projekt, and while if GoG itself becomes unprofitable, CDP might choose to close it, the greater company as a whole is solidly in the black. They would certainly keep the download servers running for quite awhile and they have the money to do so.

Yeah like I said I'm not terribly worried, but I have a 2TB external hard drive so plenty of space, so I can download like 1 game a day and it won't be hard to back up since I only have like 150 games.

I have over 1400 games, all backed up neatly to a pair of 10 TB hdds in RAID1. They take up about 2.8TB, so I still have some room before starting to worry about adding new drives into the array.

All your games take up 2.8 GB or 2.8 TB? 2.8 GB sounds much too small.

Ever present worries in one way or another. If it helps to feel a bit more secure; the very recent deal with Blizzard followed by the release of D1 & WC1&2 plus the very recent turn of Paradox coming out of its shell by releasing immediately here gave massive exposure to gog. I'm sure they got a very big amount of new customers buying for the first time here.

... unless they used lesser known browsers like pale moon and just left the moment they came because they assumed gog.com is just a horrible broken homepage :P

GoG is doing just fine and will be for a long time, I just wish they tuned down the curation a little bit.

In my country, unfortunately since the last 5 or 6 years, political parties are now paying trolls to invade social media and news sites in order to spread fake news, provoke confusion and launch insults.
It's grown to such a proportion that one can't nowadays read a single news site without a wall of commentaries filled with base insults and political venom.

I wonder if such a practice is starting to appear in the digital stores, also.
