Today, we bid farewell to the legendary post-apocalyptic 2D classics.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we needed to pull the three classic Fallout games, that is Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, from sale and remove them from our DRM-free catalog. These classic titles have been with us since day one, that is for over 5 years now, and they were always one of the highlights of the selection of games that we offer. There are very few titles in the history of computer role-playing games, that have had so much impact on the gaming landscape, players' expectations, and even the popular culture. The iconic setting, the memorable quotes, and unparalleled amount of fun and challenge these games provide--it's all burned in the memory of a whole generation of gamers. Probably even more than just one generation. It was an honor to have you here, Fallout. Take good care of yourself out there, try not to mistake a gecko for G.E.C.K. (not even remotely the same thing!), and remember to take your Rad-X pills!

All those who acquired Fallout, Fallout 2, or Fallout Tactics on GOG.com prior to the date of removal (that is before Tuesday, December 31st 2013, at 3:59PM GMT), will still be able to download the games' install files (as well as the bonus content) via the "My Games" section of their user accounts. Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid. However, if you own a gift-code for any or all of them that was purchased outside of the said giveaway, you'll still be able to redeem it in the foreseeable future.

We sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience this situation may have caused you. We invite you to browse through 671 other fantastic titles offered in our DRM-free catalog of the best games in history, and we wish you a Happy New Year of gaming!
It has finally happened. I was introduced to Fallout 2 when it was released shortly. That was how many years ago? And thanks to GoG I was able to acquire a copy of Tactics. Ans now at least we know the Wasteland will always have a space on our shelves.

Thank you GoG and Happy New Year!
Damn legal crap getting in the way of then fun; thanks for giving them away a few weeks ago, that was a really cool move GOG.

It's still a sad day though, expecially because you were the only ones selling the mac versions :(
Why GOG?! Why?

The first two games I ever purchased digitally, + one free one, here. They will be missed. Too bad for all the players that waited on these ones. Hopefully they'll be back someday.
Some game developers amaze me. If it was not for us the companies would not be in business. We buy the games and in return it makes the company money to make more, but for a while now a lot of them are just after our wallets and it kinda pisses me off and when they pull something like this it makes me never want any thing to do with them.

It is still sad to see them go though as I posted on my Facebook wall and told my friends about how awesome GOG was about giving away the games everyone was excited about that and made accounts so they can snag then and then realize how awesome the site was and wound up buying other games as well and now I had to post how stupid the company that made the Fallout games are and that they are making GOG pull it.
Well, thanks GOG for one of the best christmas gifts I received this year. I live with a student budget and free games are always welcome.
I hope you guys manage to get a deal with Bethesda. More people must know about FO1 and 2.
Thats why i hate Steam really. Its not just sell locked-in games, its not just hogs whole market, its started to eating even titles which was DRM-free for long time before steam existed. First puppygames announced that "steam wins" and removed DRM-free titles from sale, now Fallout becoming steam-only title or something like that.
First Steam decided to conquire all indies (Desura), looks like now they decided gobble classics too and destroy Gog. Humble becomes almost Steam reseller. Its exceptionally sad news.

From what I've heard it's because of Bethesda, not Steam.

I dont think they ever reveal real reasons, but from that how market situatuion develops and constant developer's whining about "how sad and hard to sell game without Steam" i pretty much sure that its all about Steam in the end. More and more developers decides "why bother with some oldschool retard if 95% of market is Steam"

mqstout: As one should. Everyone should refuse to use Steam. Using Steam is condoning practices such as the very topic of this thread.

almabrds: If I can buy the same game in GOG, I don't think twice. Unfortunately, sometimes you really want to play a game, and your option is to buy in Steam, or never playing the game. Still, I only buy in promos, because there's no guarantee I won't lose my games (I can make backups of all my games in GOG).
Exactly what I do. The Steam holiday sale racked up twenty games for me, all of them under $10, and none of them available elsewhere without DRM at least as bad as Steam. The fact that some really obnoxious devs strip things like Tages from Steam releases lets me pick up a game I would have never bought before.

I'd pay full price for these games on GOG, of course it'd take me a year to afford them all, but nothing that requires Steam will top a $10 purchase price.

Well, Ultimate Editions I may pay a little more for, but when I was buying on PSN the game I picked up for $20 on Steam cost me $110 because of the DLC.

I also won't buy the UPlay or Origin games, ever, you couldn't even give them to me. Anno 2077 went on sale, really cheap, but that whole "UPlay" listing in the system requirements took it right out of the possible purchases list. Mass Effect, 1 & 2 were up for $10, but 3 (which I think I may finally be over the trauma of the ending I saw from my pre-order on PS3) requires Origin so the whole series is being left behind as I drop console gaming.

Kristian: If GOG would continue to sell the games despite lack of an agreement who would sue them? That party is obviously the party that forced them to stop selling the games, by an (atleast implicit) threat to sue them otherwise. Isn't that party Bethesda?
You seem to be under the impression that GOG would sell the games (any games) if there wasn't the "threat of suing". I'll direct you to [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/dark_fall_creator_dissapointed_in_gog/post1]two threads which was the result of a single facebook post. Since there was a chance that GOG was selling games without having the rights to do so, GOG removed them. The entity that would "sue them" if that was the case? An individual. GOG didn't remove the games from sale because of legal threats, they removed them because if they weren't sure they had the rights to sell them, removing them was the right thing to do.

So no, only thing Bethesda has done wrong is not having a contract with GOG, the removal of games is Interplay's (and GOG's) doing, same as the free Fallout.
Feel free to bash Bethesda for other reasons, but Bethesda is not forcing GOG to remove the games.

Anyway, have a happy new year, and let's hope we'll see the return of Fallouts, along with many more games.
So glad I got these when I did.
Great classics.
Thank you GOG for letting those who purchased em still access them.

While I'm not the greatest Steam fan myself, I can't blame them for what happened. Every shop has to please its customers to stay in business. Steam audience wants Fallout, so if Steam can get a deal to sell those popular games, we can't blame Valve for, well, not removing Fallout titles in an act of solidarity with us. Sure, that would be a nice gesture... but totally impossible in the business world.
This is why I hate digital distribution. Sure, if you can't find a physical copy, the digital version will always be available...until it's taken down. Then you have a better chance of getting the physical version. With that said, this is why I prefer DRM-Free copies. I have the peace of mind that I'll always have it.

I have to mention that Steam hasn't taken them down. Is there something about GoG that they had to take it down first?
Well, its not really matter which reason of Fallout was. It was removed and its already nothing good. Maybe GOG will make it to return...but in same time they should do things which they already started last year - to attract new, indie, games in store. Since overall DRM situation gettin worse, gettin more stuff in store is only option.
Holds moment of silence.

Rest in peace Fallout series. Do not let the shitty fakes made by tallentless copycats disturb your rest.
