Today, we bid farewell to the legendary post-apocalyptic 2D classics.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we needed to pull the three classic Fallout games, that is Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, from sale and remove them from our DRM-free catalog. These classic titles have been with us since day one, that is for over 5 years now, and they were always one of the highlights of the selection of games that we offer. There are very few titles in the history of computer role-playing games, that have had so much impact on the gaming landscape, players' expectations, and even the popular culture. The iconic setting, the memorable quotes, and unparalleled amount of fun and challenge these games provide--it's all burned in the memory of a whole generation of gamers. Probably even more than just one generation. It was an honor to have you here, Fallout. Take good care of yourself out there, try not to mistake a gecko for G.E.C.K. (not even remotely the same thing!), and remember to take your Rad-X pills!

All those who acquired Fallout, Fallout 2, or Fallout Tactics on GOG.com prior to the date of removal (that is before Tuesday, December 31st 2013, at 3:59PM GMT), will still be able to download the games' install files (as well as the bonus content) via the "My Games" section of their user accounts. Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid. However, if you own a gift-code for any or all of them that was purchased outside of the said giveaway, you'll still be able to redeem it in the foreseeable future.

We sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience this situation may have caused you. We invite you to browse through 671 other fantastic titles offered in our DRM-free catalog of the best games in history, and we wish you a Happy New Year of gaming!
Thank you ever so much, GOG, for making these great classics available DRM free for while they lasted. I hope that you can negotiate to have them returned to your catalog once again! That would be a superb triumph for everyone.

Yes, that is indeed a good question: Now that Bethesda does own Arcane, is the future of Arx Fatalis' availability on GOG also in doubt? It would be a sad day indeed to see that terrific - and largely under rated - title be removed as well.

I hope that should that situation arise, GOG provides us all with ample notification.

Long live GOG! ...and long live those brilliant, older Fallout games, where ever they go next!
I don't know jack when it comes to property rights and what not, but someone over at the Steam forums mentioned that BethSoft owns the IP (something we all know), but asks if that translates to BethSoft owning the games (music, artwork, etc.)?

If Bethsoft just owns the Fallout IP and not the games themselves, what could this mean?

Perhaps someone here who knows about how all this works can answer this, but it was something that I didn't think about.

yeah... there is that, right? someone's got to say it the way it is. You love DRM masquerading as a convenience store, too, right? go on... we know you want to see more of it. *sarcasm* right..? RIGHT???
No!!! I missed them for free 2 weeks ago, and the winter sale, now i missed them forever. ;<

I'm just making sure I understood this right so I have to double check this:
As long as these games are already in my library will I be abel to download
them with all of their bonus content in future without any problems?

According to what I read and understood that would be the case and limitations
would only apply for those who haven't used their codes for games before
chosen time or wanted to purchase them from GOG.com after that.

Also being said you are more or less forced to drop them from your catalog
I supose this means they won't be supported in future with some new OS?

These are propably stupid questions but I want to make sure I will be abel to
play my favorite games in future aswell. :)

PS: Best of the new year for all of you!

Yes, existing owners retain access to games and bonus content indefinitely. I have one of GOG's earliest removed games (TOCA Race Driver 3, removed from sale in 2009) and it's still on the shelf today.

In my opinion, but definitely, no more patches in the future. But don't worry, there will be some user-made patches.
Oh Bethesda, your stupidity never cease to amaze me.
Boooooooo!!!!

CeriCat: It's always possible they will negotiate this again, it's not like there aren't other Bethesda games on GOG.com already, could just be a while.

Kristian: Other Bethesda games on GOG? Games they published? Link? Notice Arkane it it self listed as the publisher on the GOG version of Arx Fatalis and this IIRC they signed on for Arx Fatalis prior to the ZeniMax acquisition.
Whoops (my mistake there), and yeah no others. Pity, they're missing a great revenue stream in GOG.com, a few of the mainstream more recent games I own DRM free thanks to GOG.com run a whole lot better than the regular versions (I doubt this surprises anyone). Plus Steam can be a real dog when you have a real collection instead of just a few titles (800+ in my case, and I've got a few people I know with 3,000+).

almabrds: You can buy at Amazon/Ebay, if you refuse to use Steam.

mqstout: As one should. Everyone should refuse to use Steam. Using Steam is condoning practices such as the very topic of this thread.
If I can buy the same game in GOG, I don't think twice. Unfortunately, sometimes you really want to play a game, and your option is to buy in Steam, or never playing the game. Still, I only buy in promos, because there's no guarantee I won't lose my games (I can make backups of all my games in GOG).
