Today, we bid farewell to the legendary post-apocalyptic 2D classics.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we needed to pull the three classic Fallout games, that is Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, from sale and remove them from our DRM-free catalog. These classic titles have been with us since day one, that is for over 5 years now, and they were always one of the highlights of the selection of games that we offer. There are very few titles in the history of computer role-playing games, that have had so much impact on the gaming landscape, players' expectations, and even the popular culture. The iconic setting, the memorable quotes, and unparalleled amount of fun and challenge these games provide--it's all burned in the memory of a whole generation of gamers. Probably even more than just one generation. It was an honor to have you here, Fallout. Take good care of yourself out there, try not to mistake a gecko for G.E.C.K. (not even remotely the same thing!), and remember to take your Rad-X pills!

All those who acquired Fallout, Fallout 2, or Fallout Tactics on GOG.com prior to the date of removal (that is before Tuesday, December 31st 2013, at 3:59PM GMT), will still be able to download the games' install files (as well as the bonus content) via the "My Games" section of their user accounts. Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid. However, if you own a gift-code for any or all of them that was purchased outside of the said giveaway, you'll still be able to redeem it in the foreseeable future.

We sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience this situation may have caused you. We invite you to browse through 671 other fantastic titles offered in our DRM-free catalog of the best games in history, and we wish you a Happy New Year of gaming!

Solei: Hate to say it, and i might get some flak for it - but apart from the fallout games purchased legally on gog, the only good Zenimax/Bethesda games now, are the pirated ones.

Don't buy anything from them until they cave in, and make their games available outside steam.

auberon2k: That's a bit of an overstatement of this situation. Bethesda hasn't forced GOG to removed these, it would have been Interplay that pulled it to prevent breach of contract. All three games mentioned have ALSO been pulled from Steam. I suspect we'll see them return when the pen a new deal with Bethesda this time.
If GOG would continue to sell the games despite lack of an agreement who would sue them? That party is obviously the party that forced them to stop selling the games, by an (atleast implicit) threat to sue them otherwise. Isn't that party Bethesda?

godzizzle, pessimism is always needed.
So long Fallout and thanks for all the fun (-3 Hapiness Points).

shmerl: Thanks for not pulling the games from those who already bought them.

The scum of the earth! (with the exception of whoever represents me).

You hear that lady's and gents time to back'em up just in case.

dgn: Whether they own the rights is irrelevant. Anyone who appreciates the Fallout games must be appalled at them owning the rights to begin with, given their track record of making derivative, dumbed down pieces of shit that are the antithesis of Fallout. To say nothing of this sad turn of events on GOG.
Fallout New Vegas is a great game, sorry you've deprived yourself from it. And Beth owning the rights is relevant. It's their IP now, just like Doom is their IP when they bought out ID. Whether they created it or not has nothing to do with it, it happens all the time in the business world.

I'm taking this post as intimating Beth is trying to force GOG to pull the games down from peoples' libraries.

No, nothing like that is happening.
The only reason I can think of why there removed is because they are making a remake of fallout one and two and it will be the same style as fallout three I’m just saying

GOG.com: Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid.

Wishbone: You know, if you had made that clear up front (or just bothered to answer any of the several people who asked that specific question at the time), maybe your servers wouldn't have been DDOS'ed to hell and back. Just saying.
Not searching for the precise quote - but that change to the gift-codes came about because people were re-selling them after the free giveaway had ended. So I don't think they'd planned to make them invalid; but had to as a reaction to people abusing the system (and they've been invalid for a good number of days already; as said there was an official statement in one of the threads somewhere out there).

Actually, there are no implications of anything - Bethseda didn't remove Fallout games, the original deal with Interplay is quite simply no longer valid and Bethseda, the new holder of rights for Fallout, does not have a deal with GOG yet.
I hope that in the near future they make a return to the platform. I see no reason to try and change the product availability and hope that the simple transfer of rights will be the only reason for the interruption.

If not, Bethesda will just have to contend with making their fans unhappy.
Hope Bethesda decides to sign a contract with GOG. I know will be harder to see the newer games from them here because they use Steamworks, but at least bringing back the old Fallouts and withy luck the old ID games too
;_;7

Sure there are implications, just not the one he mentioned. One obvious implication is that Bethesda has so far not signed a deal with GOG regarding the Fallout titles.
Sad to see them go, I think those were my first purchase on Gog... Is that the reason you're were giving them away ?

Fallout 1 & 2 should be public domain anyway ^^
Thank you very much GOG for giving them for free before they were removed ! I'm happy to have all 3 of them in my library !

Now I can only hope you'll be able to sign a contract to get the rest of the series in the near future !
