Today, we bid farewell to the legendary post-apocalyptic 2D classics.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we needed to pull the three classic Fallout games, that is Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, from sale and remove them from our DRM-free catalog. These classic titles have been with us since day one, that is for over 5 years now, and they were always one of the highlights of the selection of games that we offer. There are very few titles in the history of computer role-playing games, that have had so much impact on the gaming landscape, players' expectations, and even the popular culture. The iconic setting, the memorable quotes, and unparalleled amount of fun and challenge these games provide--it's all burned in the memory of a whole generation of gamers. Probably even more than just one generation. It was an honor to have you here, Fallout. Take good care of yourself out there, try not to mistake a gecko for G.E.C.K. (not even remotely the same thing!), and remember to take your Rad-X pills!

All those who acquired Fallout, Fallout 2, or Fallout Tactics on GOG.com prior to the date of removal (that is before Tuesday, December 31st 2013, at 3:59PM GMT), will still be able to download the games' install files (as well as the bonus content) via the "My Games" section of their user accounts. Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid. However, if you own a gift-code for any or all of them that was purchased outside of the said giveaway, you'll still be able to redeem it in the foreseeable future.

We sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience this situation may have caused you. We invite you to browse through 671 other fantastic titles offered in our DRM-free catalog of the best games in history, and we wish you a Happy New Year of gaming!
So does anyone know how the rest of the Interplay catalogue is doing? Someone mentioned they were going bankrupt, but this is the first I've heard about it - what's going to happen to the other Interplay games during 2014?
Hm....from GOG's twitter, in the same conversation in which GOG announces the removal of the Fallout games.
We'll try to provide additional details as soon as it is possible and--if possible--keep you updated on important developments.
Apologies if this was mentioned already. I'll take it as a sign that there might be a light at the end of the tunnel, eventually. >_>

Pheace: That in itself doesn't mean they forced them to do anything. GOG works with contracts to sell stuff. They're not naive to the point that they sell stuff they have no contracts for. They know they're liable if they sell stuff they don't have the rights to sell. That doesn't by definition mean they were forced to do anything. But it does mean that, as long as there's no contract/agreement, GOG can't continue selling the game.

Kristian: Right, GOG would thankfully never in a million years do what I suggested, otherwise they would loose trust in the industry and developers and publishers would flee in droves. But it remains the case that if they did it any way Bethesda would be suing them and Interplay wouldn't be suing them. Interplay are NOT the party forcing GOG to remove the Fallout titles.
Right, I'm not disagreeing with you here, just slightly talking past you I think. I agree Interplay most likely didn't force GOG to remove the games, nor did Bethesda. It's simply the end of the agreement, and they have no new agreement with the new rightsholder to continue selling them, so the games get removed from sale.

This has nothing to do with the rest of the Interplay catalog it is as safe or unsafe as ever. This is the result of a specific dispute between Interplay and Bethesda. What happens to Interplay will be a result of their business decisions and outside influences. This doesn't really change that at all.

Smoove17: Time to vote on the wishlist.

Fallout

Fallout 2

Fallout Tactics
Great idea.

It can't hurt to vote those up and show Bethesda how much interest there is here, money they're leaving on the table.
Thank you GoG for bringing those awesome games back into gaming world. Fallout 1 & 2 were one of the first titles I got on GoG and I know I would probably have no other legal way for getting to play those awesome games again.

Thank you Interplay for giving players, oportunity to play Fallout’s again and showing them to younger generation.

Thank you Fallout for being such an awesome game. Hope to see you soon on GoG.
I'm just going blame and shake a fist at the company that bought out the Fallout IP from Interplay when it first collapsed. Then pout. Then go and kill a few Super Mutants in honor of the company that published some of my favorite games.
The end of an era. I seriously doubt they will ever come back, so props to GOG and Titus/Interplay for making for all the games available here for free.

tfishell: Blows my mind. Bethesda must have really wanted control, CONTROL, of the series. Everyone has the games now, and you can torrent them out of your mind. Bethesda could have let them stay to earn a few more bucks, but no. They dun goofed.

(I think that's a key major difference between Steam and GOG - Steam lets devs have control over their games, while GOG lets gamers have control over there games.)

In any case, time to move on and seek out other classics to appear here.
It's always possible they will negotiate this again, it's not like there aren't other Bethesda games on GOG.com already, could just be a while.
Zenimax, the awful company that sucks so hard from Valve's necrotic teet they can't tolerate even products that already were DRM-free to continue to be sold as such.
Worsener of TES... and destroyer of Id.

I wonder if Bethesda will be the next best thing to EA when it comes to douchebagery? (yes, I dislike them... can you tell?)

Other Bethesda games on GOG? Games they published? Link? Notice Arkane it it self listed as the publisher on the GOG version of Arx Fatalis and this IIRC they signed on for Arx Fatalis prior to the ZeniMax acquisition.
FUCK STEAM !!!

almabrds: You can buy at Amazon/Ebay, if you refuse to use Steam.
As one should. Everyone should refuse to use Steam. Using Steam is condoning practices such as the very topic of this thread.
Maybe GOG will eventually work out something with Bethesda.

It's a shame to see them disappear from the catalog here. It's like a piece of GOG is missing now...
