F-16 Fighting Falcon

<span class="bold">Falcon Collection</span>, a retro flight sim anthology, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com - with a 40% launch discount on the Weekend Promo: Retro Mishmash.

Falcon was a game changer. Realism was the name of the game, and Falcon did things that have never been done before. Realistic simulated physics, a detailed, first-person cockpit view, and a ridiculous manual. Starting from Falcon in 1987, through Falcon A.T. and Falcon 3.0 - each release brought us closer to the very real flight experience.
Among the games' goodies, you'll also find a bonus as-is copy of Falcon 4.0, but also the "Art of the Kill" instructional video & PDF - a very real lesson, by a very real F-16 pilot, on how to tame the supersonic arsenal. Simulation mechanics are one thing, the spirit of flight is another - and the foreword says it all:
"Art of the Kill has been designed to teach you the fundamentals of Basic Fighter Maneuvers (BFM). As the name implies, BFM is the cornerstone of tactical fighter aviation. Since its principles are rooted in the laws of physics, geometry and aerodynamics, they are non-negotiable and cannot be finessed."
Badass.

Take to the skies in the extremely realistic <span class="bold">Falcon Collection</span> now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.

The-Business: Why is Falcon 4.0 part of the bonus goodies? Compatibility issues?

Fever_Discordia: Yeah, I was wondering that - is it a Windows 3.1 game or something crazy?

*edit* also it's weird that a lot of Retroism things on Steam are yet to make their way here yet this pack isn't over there yet - be nice if F-19 could be retroactively added to F-117 V2.0...
Agreed on that, here's a wishlist link so that more votes may get some attention:

Any other flight or tank sims anyone can think of for me to provide wishlist links to?

OK according to PC Gaming WIKI

there's a community patch for Falcon 4.0 that should sort you right out and make it even better too!

Wow. Just, wow.

I already gave up on Falcon 3.0c back in the day, it was just too overwhelming for me to learn even by reading the manual. Still, I think I'll buy this for historical reasons.

Hopefully no one needs to ask if the games are playable with a mouse or a gamepad. I think a proper flightstick is pretty much required for these.

I am very interested to see Falcon AT, because that is the game that made me wonder whether PC gaming is the future of gaming. I had an Amiga 500 at the time, and reading an article about Falcon AT made me think maybe PC is where its at. I bought Falcon for Amiga later though, it was ok but playing it with a digital joystick was not that good. PC analog flightsticks for the win!

OMG! What an awesome release!!!!!!!!!

Falcon 4.0 is still my go-to modern flight sim, basically the BMS version. And Microprose (the developers of 4.0) are still one of my favourite devs of all time.

It would be a little off-topic in the release of a flight simulator, but consider voting this:

Not only better but BMS is also the best F-16 sim out there.

To quote Wikipedia regarding Falcon 4.0 and how we have multiple versions of it (4.0, FreeFalcon, Allied Force)

"Falcon 4.0 was the source of much controversy due to source code being leaked from MicroProse in the year 2000.[18] In the years between the source code leak and the release of Falcon 4.0: Allied Force (2005), many "unofficial" tweaks were released by the online community to fix bugs and enhance the game for modern systems.

Many of these enhancements have found their way into derivative versions, namely Allied Force, FreeFalcon and Falcon BMS. Allied Force was the commercial re-release of Falcon 4.0, while FreeFalcon and Falcon BMS are the most current community driven version. As of 2013, only the latter is still in development. The Falcon 4.0 series is one of the longest running game series using the same code base in the PC history, spanning well over a decade."

Smannesman: Nice release, nice pricing and no regional pricing.
But those graphics are like scrubbing my eyes with a stainless steel sponge.
Note that the screenshots are from various games in the Falcon series, starting from the original CGA-graphics Falcon, which was released in 1987.

I think the newest screenshots were from Falcon 3.0, which is a 1991 DOS (low res VGA) game, so its graphics also have probably aged badly. Apparently no Falcon 4.0 screenshots were included, probably because 4.0 is delivered as an extra. All the screenshots seemed to be from the first three games.
Also, take a look at these wonderful videos:

And if you decide to get in the cockpit, this guy below has some of the best tutorials found on YT. Highly recommended.

Krause Tutorials

Also, BMS has it own manuals that are slightly different to the normal 4.0 manual as the flight characteristics & weapon simulation changed a bit.

Damn, that looks hype.

What are the recommended system requirements to run that?
