Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

At first I was really excited, then I read multiplayer requires BattleNet. -.-

Edit: Ah direct connection via TCP/IP works too, BattleNet only required for matchmaking.

gandalfnho: Nice, very nice surprise. I still have my CD-ROM, but always wanted a digital backup. What about Warcraft 1 and 2 (and expansion) in the future, considering both titles aren't available digitally yet?
According to PC Gamer, we'll be seeing more Blizzard titles on Gog soon™.

Honestly can't believe Diablo is even here. Awesome job Gog! Thanks for this and keep up the good work. :)

BleepBl00p: It feels weird seeing people give it 5 star or 10/10 when Diablo 2 exists and improves pretty much everything about it.
Diablo 2 does not improve everything. The ambiance, feel, pacing, "slag fest" and hopelessness -- that is, the FEELING -- of Diablo 1 is vastly superior. (Not to say ill of Diablo 2, which was -- is -- a great game, and only recently been surpassed by Grim Dawn as the best game in the genre.)
Now please diablo 2!
Wow, truly a monumental moment in GOG history. System Shock 2 & Grim Fandango and now Diablo.

Way to go GOG, I hadn't bought anything in a while due to lack of decent classics being released, long waits are worth it when the calibre is of this standard.

Instabought!

Thanks
Forum doesn't display my last post, so I can't edit, but yeah I see that TCP/IP connection also works on the game page, so that's cool then.

I'm much more interested in Warcraft 1&2, though.
That's just amazing! Probably the most important release here since System Shock and getting EA games.

AMAZING
Woaaaaaaah, can't believe it, well done GOG. Also, extra points for the cool homepage.
Awesome! Please see about getting the sequel and their expansions!
Very, very good release. Finally I can purchase the first Diablo ! :D
Congratulation and thanks to all people involved in this release !
Now, I strongly hope for the original versions of Starcraft + BroodWar, and the Warcraft series !

Does anybogy know a HD mod compatible with this GOG version ?

Exactly this. It's pretty hard finding a similar game to Diablo when it comes to that.
I won't be able to play Diablo because I am dead from this epic news. Great job, GOG!
