Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

Maighstir: I didn't read the email yet, but yes, between reading the thread title and the actual post, I was certain GOG had found a long-forgotten game with the same name from some one-man team.

Yeah, like that. Or this.
WTF? Everybody was so sure you couldn't do it.
Fucking what? That's absolutely unexpected, holy shit.

chevkoch: GOG, well done.

ZFR: You can show your gratitude by inventing a title for the er... other thread. "Diablo" - plenty of potential.
Gave it a go. But hey, jump in with something more fitting by all means.
What the HELL !!! Di . . . a . . . blo . . . 1 . . . Ooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhh ! ! !

Elmofongo: Schisse.

What's the complaint?

Utuzuu: There is some technical - but ultimately minor complaint - about resolution or something. Also somebody pointed out that GOG mixed up VGA and SVGA in their description. (Don't know this is accurate and I don't care.) Aaand there is this one guy who pointed out that Diablo 1 never had DRM and he is mad, because there are still DRM free retail versions on eBay. I also do not know if this is accurate or not, but why exactly he gets mad about the fact that Diablo 1 never had DRM coupled with the fact that it is now being released DRM free on GOG is beyond me. There is only a certain amount of anger and negativity before it gets unreasonable and holy shit, they appear the be about to launch a punitive expedition into Poland...

...You know, instead of appreciating the fact, that a) EFFING BLIZZARD HAS COME TO GOG and that b) they get the original version of the game AND an updated version in one bundle. Oh, and a German localization, which was only available on Playstation beforehand, it seems, but screw that, right?

The German psyche is incapable of feeling contentment and satisfaction. It seems almost as if god has put the Germans on this earth for the sole purpose of generating conflict. There is only war, and we are apparently blessed by Khorne. This must be what it feels like living in a Stellaris empire with pops with the quarrelsome trait.
Please don't bs them, they might even believe that. The only guy being negative there is the one who is always negative and actually you, complaing about said guy (lol).

Anyway, tested Battle.net earlier and played for three hours with three other people. Worked perfectly :)

WOW Ok I did not expect this to appear on GOG! Great to see GOG and Blizzard working together!!

Though this is a pass for me, I've already got the game from the old Battlechest set and never really got into it - Diablo 2 though is a masterpiece of the genre and still the all round best I think!

That said if the news post is accurate then other early Bliz games might well appear and I'd be VERY excited to get a working copy of Warcraft 2

Just a note for some - even the old Battlechest by blizzard didn't have the expansion pack for Diablo 1 - I think its stuck in one of those legal-hells where its rights are hard to get/impossible. Heck it might even be that the original gold code is lost or something.
- Eh?
. . . ... Eeeeeh !?

Did gog just sign the contract without reading the fine print, or ?
I did not expect this at all.

(I don't know what you guys just did - but it seems to be working. Congrats ;) )
I have recently been wanting to play this game so bad so it's great to see it show up here! But now I have to ask for the release of the Mac version... would love to play this on my iMac as well.
Whoah!

I own it on CD though, so i will wait for a big sale, but it is nice to see this come out again.

Now of course, it would be cool if this means that Blizzard will also use GoG to release their one and only truly original game, the one that wasn't just a polished up derivative of Dune II, Angband or Everquest.

I'm of course talking about The lost vikings.
Okay, I just gut a mention that Diablo was updated to v2.
Had a mate wanting me to buy him diablo 2 on batllenet cant wait to see his face when i tell him that the original Diablo is here as he loved the game. Although still to get him back as my rogue got taken out byy his chain lighting from him Wizard.
Bardzo wam dziękuję, GOG team! GGWP
What the fuck just happened?
I personally appreciate the effort put in by both of these companies to re release this timeless classic! I purchased this title in hopes of seeing the re release of warcraft 2 tides of darkness, and warcraft 2 beyiond the dark portal. If this happens, I assure you I will make the first purchase when it comes out! Thank You!

Best Wishes
