ktchong: Only idiots would buy a fresh release from Obsidian. Sure, they might have had some great ideas in the long past, but they could not program a decent, stable product even if their lives depended on it. Their newly released games are always buggy and unplayable.
That is why gamers (who might have admired their efforts and ideas) stopped buying their games after awhile, and that's why those guys keep going bankrupt over and over again, (And I've heard Obsidian is not doing so well after New Vegas.) I refuse to buy another game from them until they learn how to properly code, quality-control and release a stable game.
You are right. Except the "idiots". Let's call them fools.
Their games look absolute promising, but are mostly unplayable due massive bugs.
After I heard, they are involved in the project, I perished the thought to give them even a single cent in advance. As gamer, I know the games they have developed, and how they failed.
Every . single . time.
- Knights of the old republic II had not even a real ENDING, story stops aprupt, without solving all ends, like the copied killer robots, one of the main plot quests!
- Fallout New vegas was an unplayable buggy mess, the CTD'ed on several playthrough tries. Bug hell on release. Fans had to fix this catastrophe.
- Neverwinter Nights 2 - They fucked it up, removing features and rules, that were implemented already in NWN 1. Buggy as hell on release.
- Alpha Protocal - The end game was just terrible. And the inventory system ... dumb. AS usual buggy as hell on release.
I will buy this game, yes. But after they had time to fix it. For about 5 Euro, like I bought all their later games. After that time, the game is patched by their fans, because Obsidian is unable to do such a thing. They have a long history, like Bethesda, to prove that fact.
Luisfius: The fuck are you on. New Vegas was considerably more stable than Fallout 3, and Dungeon Siege 3 was rock solid, if boring. Alpha Protocol had issues with the quicksaving, but was otherwise solid. Hell, the only really incomplete and buggy game they've developed was KOTOR2, and it was still vastly superior to the Bioware game.
I agree to disagree.
Fallout New vegas was not playable. It has in all my 6 playthrough tries gamebreaking savegame issues and CTD's on different points in the game. It was bug hell. After fans fixed it, this game is better than Fallout 3.
KOTOR II was a great game, but was totally unfinished. The complete planned ending was missing. It's like reading a crime story, with 1/3 part missing. It's so annoying. I really want to see the ending they had planned for this brilliant story. Maybe that's the reason, that this games is one of the most hated games by KOTOR 1 fans ever. ;)
Alpha protocol had a real bad end game. Seems to be their general fault. And the inventory system was awful. No developement money at the end of the game left.
The only point I agree with you, is Dungeon Siege III. This game is rocksolid, and is, in my oppinion, far more enjoyable than DS 1 and DS2 together, including their addons. Because this game is difficult.
