RadonGOG: That´s about how you define DRM. If you got the "closest"/ "hardest" definition, it´s EVERY form of restricting usage of a game...
And really, everybody who´d try to sell a game with DiskProtection as a DRM-free game would be shitstormed to hell...

Grargar: jamyskis has already said what the thread is all about in the first post:

"To avoid pissing contests about the definition of DRM-free, I'll lay it out here and now:

DRM-free for the purposes of this list is defined as a game that does not require any form of phoning home (for example by means of a internet connection or telephone call) for single-player gaming. Games that are inherently online multiplayer will not be included. Disc-based copy protection and locally authenticated keys do not count as DRM. Having to register for patches does not count as DRM, unless the game cannot be played without the patch."

Otherwise, many games in this list would be invalid (like Overlord 2 which uses SecuROM). The idea is that many retail games, 2008 and onwards, are resorting to online authentication nowadays and this list points out what games don't require it. Maybe the title is misleading, but for that, you'll have to complain to jamyskis. :P
Big excuse---haven´t read this introdoctury part of that post, although I´ve already been looking at that list for several times for now...

Anyways, @jamyskis: Wouldn´t it be somehow clever to simply write in brackets whether the game needs or doesn´t have DIskDRM? Intel can collected easyly and would avoid such problems...
This is a really informative thread, I used to buy some retail games before switching to digital.

jamyskis: (Comment on Arcania: Although the DRM was technically "removed" via a patch, the game still needs to perform an online release date check after patching for some random reason, so it has been removed from this list).
Is this info valid for both the vanilla and the Gold Edition?
Walking Dead GOTY Editon (Season I & 400 Days) confimed as DRM-free!
Oh, and no DVD required too!
Would anyone know if this edition of Age of Empires has DRM?

Grargar: Seems to be .
Apparently you're right, and I found sth a website called [url=http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-MOTOGP13/motogp-13]Gamersgate, whatever it is. I was sure (until today) that it's Steam-only game... Hm, MotoGP 14 is coming out in few days, I wish it would be DRM-free someday...
Does Rise of Nations or Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends have any DRM on the discs?

I'd be fine with CD keys if that was the case.

These are pretty old games and, thus, they are only using a disc check and a serial.

I never got to own them back in the day, but there are still a lot of discs floating around. I might just score them this way, instead of going for the remastered steam release of Rise of Nations.

Thanks for the info Grargar :)

I might very well be buying an old refurbished desktop in the future, seeing I lost mine in a fire. I'm trying to make a list of the games I'd get first. Most notably RPG's and Strategy titles. I'll have to check on Battlezone 1 and 2 and Throne of Darkness next :)

Wow. I'm buying this now.
(especially since Telltale never offered the free DVD at the end of the season as they did with their other series' (and do now with Walking Dead season 2)

Thanks for the heads up!
Can anyone confirm if Jurassic Park (EU) is in English and if the Strong Bad boxed game requires Steam or not?
Monkey Island: Special Edition Bundle (EU) include The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge - Special Edition, require the DVD in the drive in order to start the games.

Gobliiins 4 (Israel) require the DVD in the drive in order to start the game.
