Final pre-release update and price increase coming August 16.

So much has been happening with We Happy Few since the title joined Games in Development, but this journey is almost at its end. As the full game's release approaches, developers Compulsion Games are beginning revealed their plans for the near future.

The final in-development update "Life in Technicolor" is dropping August 16, introducing new Joy effects as well as a brand new UI (still WIP), AI reworks and much more. This date also marks the previously-announced price change – jumping to $50.99 (or your local equivalent).

You can read the full announcement here.

If you've been on the fence, this is a great time to hop over – and stay tuned for more info coming soon!

Fifty bucks for THAT? Damn, where the world is rolling to... Even Matrix Games/Slitherine don't cost their games like that.
And the cute baby animal says...

Sorry, but the game is too expensive for me at the current price.. doubling the price is just insulting.

Let me see if I get this right.
The price is going from 28 euros to 50 euros.
The game is still unfinished and if it is going to be released on the 16th with the UI still under design...6 days before release.. it will have months of updates to come. Basically it is still in beta, at best, more like alpha.
No, just no.
I would be hard pressed to pay 19.99 with the hope that the game will be eventually complete some time in the future.
I wish you good luck and finish this game, but lol for this move.

I love how it's not fair to offer the game cheaper than the backers got it, but it's fair to have a reward tier during the kickstarter that limited how many backers could back at 25 bucks as opposed to 30. And there are hundreds of backers that will still end up having pledged more than the sell price. What about them? Is it fair to sell cheaper than they backed the game?

Now that is a silly complaint...

Anyhow, I almost appreciate that someone has the guts to try to up the price for the finished product, but I don't think they will do well with it. So far only very few games seem to be able to maintain (relatively) high or even constant prices over time (such as GTA V or Shovelknight). I don't think this game will be one of them.

Selling finished games is so last century.
+interesting concept
+story element (provided writing turns out good)
+good art style

-procedural/random generation
-price

I don't buy "new" games anyway. However, I doubt this price hike is a good idea.

Yeah, we have already been discussing this for about a week -- on GOG alone.

I guess Compulsion Games also announced this raise in price on the We Happy Few GOG subforum, but I'm too lazy to link it.

I've said my piece regarding this whole subject, either here on GOG or even on Steam. I think it's a ridiculous practice, and they're just shoving us with the excuse that they had this planned and it had been announced right from the get-go. It may as well be, but I still find it to be really bad. Clever, yes, in the sense this way they can get more people to buy the game before the price increase -- thus injecting more money in a probably dwindling production budget --, but still a very bad move that should be frowned upon, no matter how "planned" and announced in advance it was.

Plus, like someone said in this thread before, when you're only releasing a proper UI this close to release and you admit it's still a work in progress... that honestly doesn't speak marvels about the development stage of your game.

Un-wishlisted.

Wow, I appreciate the warning but damn... 50 eurodollars for this?

I cannot condone this in any way.

The studio has dug its own hole with this. :(
