The Free Land of Gogan is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by Doctor Marcin with an even hand, and notable for its ban on automobiles. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 2.148 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Education, with areas such as Religion & Spirituality and Defence receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 55%, and even higher for the wealthy. A healthy private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.
Scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes, radio shows frequently feature people denouncing religion, prime real estate is devoted to wind farms and solar energy generators, and euthanasia is legal. Crime is totally unknown. Gogan's national animal is the Goglodyte, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Gog.
Gogan is ranked 4,798th in The North Pacific and 108,893rd in the world for Largest Cheese Export Sector, scoring -4 on the Mozzarella Productivity Index.

Child Casino Shock (issue 326)
Children as young as eight have been spotted gambling in some of Gogan's seedier casinos.
1. Social activist Stephanie Lee is outraged. "Gambling needs to be outlawed immediately. It's no wonder children are becoming sucked into the vice, with adults setting such a poor example. Gambling is a stain on Gogan's international reputation and it must be stopped!"
2. However, Crown Casino chairperson Lars True says, "What's wrong with children gambling? It prepares them for the realities of life, teaching them that success or failure is not due to hard work or intelligence, but the roll of the dice. Besides, if kids weren't gambling, they'd be spraypainting trains."
