trentonlf: Vote Bookwyrm627
Oh my! I have been waiting for this for so long now. I just didn't expect for it to come from trent.

So far Bookwyrm has been the person I'm most inclined to see as Town, with a runner-up in the face of another player who I will not point out for the time being. Robb's vote doesn't look like anything other than RVS, but trent's is another thing. Wyrm managed to put himself in a situation where a vote on him may seem like the a very decent step, but that is only so if you don't see why he's almost surely Town.

Therefore vote trentonlf
I see the discuss / don't discuss on game mechanics / roles / setup has moved on apace!!

Trent, Trent, Trent. You have latched onto something that is not in my opinion all that big a case, you have also blown it up out of all proportion - look at post 176 ! Extrapolating much out of nothing there!

I am aware sticking this vote in right after Dedo will attract calls of following a wagon, or sticking with buddy, but all I can say is I was writing this before I saw Dedo had posted. I have to say I can't at the moment see exactly why Bookwyrm is almost certainly town, but I can confirm my vote for him was purely RVS. I think I'm voting for Trent for different reasons than Dedo anyway, but meh.

Trent - your case stinks - vote Trentonlf
Very very interesting...looks like the game is finally on...
I'll try to post something a bit more substantial later...

Indeed it does...
I've got more work to do this afternoon but I'll reread the whole Bookwyrm / trent / dedo things later and see what I think (and post said thoughts), and see if any of them are worth putting a vote on... I smell a rat, but right now I'm not sure who it is...

Vote count please Lift?
Twilight, I like the explanation. For the sake of my post length, I'll just say my response is generally "Noted" to anything in your response that I don't specifically mention here.

TwilightBard: 1) Everyone is willing to straight up claim town, no one is stupid enough to claim Mafia.
I expect the same, I simply want to see people say it. Ix did suffer temporary insanity last game.

avatar
TwilightBard: 2)....Define work together. I'm going to apply pressure with my votes to the people I think are scummy, but I'm not going to jump on some conga line of going from one person to another, that doesn't really get us anywhere.
Fair enough. Might have worked on one person, maybe two, but I already knew it wouldn't do anything beyond that. Oh well.

TwilightBard: Here's the thing, the town can survive without power roles. In fact they have gotten to endgame and won while either losing investigative roles early, or having them be simply ineffective.

But here's the thing, if the power roles exposed themselves, then they are automatically ineffective. Lack of NK causes doubt about the truthfulness of their claim, they get blocked, NK'd, or Hell Mafia could counter-claim and then it's a real mess.

But honestly, the town DOESN'T need to figure out role information. It's the kind of thing that shouldn't be thrown around willy nilly, because there isn't much benefit to know right out of the bat until it's actually needed. Does seem pretty damn fishy to say though, extremely fishy.
Clarification on my part: There are two parts to a player's role. Power (cop, doctor, godfather, vanilla) and Affiliation (town, mafia, sk, neutral). Anti-town factions have a list of people to eliminate (any one not in their faction); town doesn't start with this list or else the number advantage would render the game trivial.

As to the more usual definition of roles: Isn't the part I bolded something of a contradiction?
Additionally, I've seen people complaining that mass role claiming ends up making the game boring, and there have been notes on the wiki that doing so can be (if done right) an almost overwhelming tool for finding scum. Note: I'm NOT advocating doing so, especially not at this stage of the game; I'm just pointing out what I've read.

In any event, I'll concede on the importance of roles to town versus to scum. I have specifically stated that I don't think roles should be claimed today, and I'll state now that roles probably shouldn't be claimed tomorrow.

Looks like Trent beats me to having two votes at the same time. Now I want to see what RWarehall and adaliabooks come up with.
Hmm... interesting...

You have a vote with no explanation. Doesn't appear to be a RVS vote, so I wondered why you choose to pick him as opposed to someone else, like Trent or myself.

Correct.

Obviously.
I promised a response. I have all my circles and arrows (large and small, pointing up and down).

I have ideas, but I'm not so sure its best to go into most of them at this time as some of the reasoning becomes problematic. One of the problems with "vote for your 3 top scum targets" lists, is how it gives scum the chance to see which non-scums have the most momentum against them and makes it too easy to subtly push for their lynch without the usual repercussions since they know so many already agree. So, I'm not doing one for now.

Also, as to people claiming "loyalty to the cause" in proclaiming themselves town, I also don't see the value in pushing for it. Imagine they refuse, claiming its stupid? Does that make them more scummy? Not really. Whatever the answer, unless they confess to being scum (and I'm all for you guys to do that if you are), we learn nothing.

As to mechanics discussion, its a double-edged sword. For me, right now, with no further information, going beyond with 15 players there is most likely about 4 scum, I'm not seeing else as very fruitful.

To be honest, I had a prime lynch candidate, but after more posts, my mind has changed. I have a few people as slightly scummy for minor infractions, and I do have some people leaning more positively town.

But, I guess it's time to vote for somebody...

Fun.
I've read through Bookwyrm, dedo, and trent's posts and... well actually the whole situation seems a little overblown.

I'm still not keen on Bookwyrm and dedo's discussion of role mechanics but considering they've both had a bit of heat dedo's defence of Bookwyrm and claim of him being the most town (not sure why, couldn't see anything myself), seems a bit risky if they are scum buddies. We're fairly confident there are flips, of alignment at least, so if one does get lynched it would portray the other in a bad light... admittedly maybe that's dedo's plan but it seems far too soon to be making a manoeuvre which is basically only valid if he gets lynched (and therefore paramount to giving up).
So right now they've both kind of dropped off the list of possible scum for now.

I'm not 100% keen on trent's play and behaviour so far but I don't really see any glaring scum behaviour yet.

I'm not entirely happy with Robb and Twilight's vote placement combined with lurking, they are on my to watch list. But I do like Twilight's last post in response to Bookwyrm, there's a lot that make sense, so still not sure what to make of him (her?)

Krypsyn's vote on dedo is suspicious... his behaviour in general seems odd, but I'm not sure what to make of it or him as I've only ever seen him play scum and don't really have a frame of reference to compare town or scum... he's also on my watch list.

And everyone else seems to be behaving largely as expected...

Its the only reason I voted for you actually...the timing seems odd and lack of an explanation to boot...
