Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Thank you for library update!
Blade of Darknes updated existing installation without any problems.
Only a little issue with galaxy client - missing picture on the left panel (with installed games) and no access to game page/extras/offline installer. Looks like galaxy trying to download something (spinning circle right below green play button).

Tried out the Windows Alpha, seems to be working well, no major issues encountered, games download, install, uninstall and run just fine. at least the few I've tried so far.

Looking forward to the eventual Linux version. fingers crossed :D

One feature that would be nice (you may already have this planned)

The ability to Browse to the game's folder, this is really useful on games where controller mapping and config files can / need to be edited, a nice quick way to do this via the Galaxy client would be really nice something similar to Steam's "Properties > local files > browse local files" only easier to access (drop down menu beside the play game / install button)

It's really nice to just have all the gog.com games(and store) in one easy access easy browse place, Keep up the good work!
Ooh nice. I'm somewhat new here even though I've been around a long time. Going to start getting more games from you'll. Just got Pillars of Eternity so this will be a nice time to test it out. Going to give it a try when I get home tonight :D
Trying to download Pillars of Eternity through the Galaxy Client is painfully slow while downloading it normally from the website is significantly faster.

Haven't had any problems downloading/installing or playing games through the Client before this.

We're aware of the issue. It will improve in one of the upcoming updates.
I tried to play Deus Ex. Unfortunately game does not allow to change resolution... Once I fired it manually (as in not from GOG Galaxy Client) it allowed me to change it just fine.
whe need a option to scan for already installed games, so we dont have to redownload them, i dont really have a problem with it, since is part of the alpha to download and redownload games, but i can see people with an internet cap or slow speed having problems with it.

Bard's Tale was not in my library, I installed with gog downloader and now is in my installed games but is not shown in my library, weird.

needs a feedback button to send smal coments about the program.

ugly interface, hope you give the chance to create themes for it.
The lagging and failure to load does seem to be mostly resolved after the library update.

Destro: a) install the game and take advantage of auto patching and some other cool things we're planning
b) download a standalone installer (no need to use Downloader anymore)
So in short the client is not optional for people who need a small app like the actual downloader (i actually can't download properly large file with my actual connection)

So the "optionial" for me isn't optional at all ...

you have zero idea how paintfull it is to backup my collection with your broken website....so i guess i will stop to buy there....

i refuse to use a bloated client for just backup my collection.

Well, first and foremost, I haven't stated in the post you're quoting that you cannot use Downloader anymore so I completely don't follow your logic. Secondly, if you already know better that the optional Client is "bloated" and inferior to our also optional Downloader from 2013 without even seeing how the Client works and this assumption is a reason for you to stop buying... well, the call is yours to make and all I can say is that we will be sad to see you go.

Destro: ... this app is built for is to 1-click install games, have keep them always up to date. ...
I hope you build in an update notification, because I'm not keen on automatically updated games leaving me with incompatible savegames. Such patches appear every once in a while (e.g. the latest Quest for Infamy update).

i don't need those options just for downloading the games , i understand some will have some use

"bloated" was maybe exageratered , but you can't denied either the client will offer much more options which have nothing to do with the actual downloader.

from what i understood, the downloader will not be updated , so i got the feeling in the end it will not be supported at all. if it's not the case , well either i didn't understood very well, either your communication wasn't very clear.

if i have a suggestion : maybe you should consider galaxy in two forms : one with the basic function (like the actual downloader if you consider to drop ti in the end) and the client will all the features.

lastly : i "guess" it's related : i remember you said (well, GOG) customers wouldn't be affected by galaxy; but the website (shleves) is very buggy atm. (unbundlling, which in imho could have be done in a better way, i already suggested some ideas to the support) . Product_xxxx_bonus, downloader entry with no description, missing languages installer for some games....and i can continue ....

Sorry , but i don't trust you very well, when i see the actual "quality control", my "GOG'sexperience" isn't very good atm.

To be honest, my GOG experience had never been this good as now. Despite the bugs/issues and the fact that what we have now is an alpha client, I'm extremely happy about it. Now finally I have all my GOG games in one place and I can install/play them with one click (if nothing's buggy ofc).

And, if I want a backup or I want to take my game to some place where I don't have internet connection, I still can get the standalone installer anytime which is great.

And another note: before we had the client, I did not spend any money at the GOG Store purely because I got sooo used to Steam where I could access all my games in one place and GOG did not have that. Since I have Galaxy access, I already purchased two games. I know it's not much, but hey, it's just the beginning.
Stopped working in mac 10.10.3. I can launch the launcher but anything beyond that doesn't work.

What do you mean by launcher and "doesn't work"? The GOG Galaxy or the Launcher bundled with for example The Witcher Adventure Game? I'm currently on 10.10.3 (14D113c) and the GOG Galaxy seems to work fine. Need more details to help you, logs would be perfect :)
