Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Venom: Hi Everyone,

we've just released an update to the Galaxy client, v.0.5 with the following changes:
* Game News - game views will now display news section for each game
* Game EULAs - client will now ask to accept EULA prior to installation
* Fixed crash when downloading large extras
* Fixed occasional crash when downloading games
* Game installation status should now show the proper status (rather than INITIALIZING all the time)
* Removing downloading queue items will now decrement overall download size
* Library path should not read the default installer setting
* Autoupdate process improvements
* Significant performance increase on OS X

The update is for now available only via the auto update mechanism, so just restart your client and it should update to the new version.

We will post updated installers later on. We will also sent out next batch of invites later today, so there is still time to sign up!
Damn that was fast (especially compared to the gap between 0.2 and 0.4). Is this a sign of more frequent updates? I was worried that a project of this scale would take over a year before coming out of alpha.

HeDanny: Not sure if this is a bug or not. May be intended behavior I just hope it is not.

I used galaxy to install a game. I then checked the download directory and the install files are not there?

paladin181: If you install a game, the files don't stay in the download directory. They are moved to the game install directory.
awww. that sucks. :(
Thanks for confirmation.
I am currently using the Alpha Client and I have a few Questions:

1: Is there an Option to disable the automatic creation of Desktop Shortcuts for every Downloaded game or is that at least an planned feature?

2: Is the Galaxy Client supposed to be for games only or will we be able to Stream / Download the Movies we bought with the Client as well?

3: My Windows is a german Version, so I guess that´s or my IP is the reason why Galaxy loads the german Store Version Library Views, how ever the Menus are all in English. Can I force the Client to be in one Language only? (Now or in the Future)

1: This is planned to be added in the future, for now we'll have to live with it :)

2: This I haven't heard anything about, but I would venture a guess that the developers plan on Galaxy being able to bring you *all* of the content you have purchased on GOG, movies included.

3: Language options are also not yet available, but will be in the future. I think I remember a dev saying it would be available in one of the coming alpha updates? So hopefully soon.
Thanks, good to hear that at least 2 of the 3 thins are allready planned.
I have the galaxy apha client and i found this issues:
1.-Gabriel knight 20th aniversary appears in my account but at 87% gets stuck, and no possibility of repairing.

2.-some games of my account do not appear in library

3.-Cannot install each game where you want, only changing settings it is possible

2. - question already answered in the very first post on the top of the every page..
* not all games are currently compatible with the client, so you’ll only see the compatible ones in the alpha version of the Galaxy Client.

3. feature not implemented yet.

-There will be achievements with score?

-Will have voice chat?
Just as a little note (and I had nodoubt about it), Galaxy seems to work flawlessly (well, with the same little flaws it has on Windows 7) even in Windows 10.
Keep on with the good job guys!

At this point we're not yet commenting or announcing future features but focusing on testing and improving core tech powering the Client. Rest assured we will have some surprises and we do have many feature ideas for the Galaxy way beyond version 1.0.

Could you please post report about the Win7 flaws found to mantis.gog.com? (unless they are already there)

There would be no point to keep the files in download directory, as the Client does not download installers but a games in pre-installed form already (with some additional scripts / redists included to make the game work).

If you want a backup-able version of the game, you can still download it as a standalone installer and then use it to install the game instead (it will be added to Galaxy)

I recently discovered the Galaxy Client will automatically add games installed via a GOG.com standalone installer to the side list of games played if they are unsupported by the client. However, until the client is restarted, the game image is missing, and the game's page won't load. I've tried this with one game installed per session as well as multiple games per session, all with the same results as described. Here's the games I tested:

-Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny
-Lands of Lore: The Throne of Destiny
-Realms of Arkania - Blade of Destiny
-Earthworm Jim

They're there! You've already fixed some, and one (#0001107) is still flagged as "Assigned" even if it seems fine to me. But I found a new one.
While looking through the Aliens vs Predator forum, I got the distinct impression the Galaxy client is auto installed. Is there any "clean"(no client) version of the installer or at the very least the OPTION BEFORE installing anything, to NOT install anything other than the game (NO client/galaxy etc.) I only want to play the game in single player mode and I DO NOT want the client.

PS- it is not good enough that I can uninstall it afterwards. Neither is getting an apology AFTER some one kicks you in the ass -_-
Am I the only one who feels the performance of the client has gotten a little worse with the latest updates? After the latest updates it seems to me it takes a long time for stuff to load on the game pages. Like the background pics are slower loading and often the client gets confused if you click through different games to quickly and displays the wrong background pic. The new "news" sections is very slow and again the pictures are slow to load. Overall the when loading pictures it often seems to have issues. Not only that but you seem to actually have to click each individual game page for the news section to even finish loading for every game.

I will say though the game pages actually load now on their own better than they did in the old client build and it was a little faster loading until the news section update...

PS: Also is the a reason the client has gotten some recent updates like Dead State yet?

Technically, that's not the Galaxy client, just a launcher to enable multiplayer. But yes, they've been promising a clean installer for ages and nothing so far.
