Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Finally got the code for the client. While I like the client, it's designed really badly. Storing data in 10 different places is VERY BAD design.

So I have:
- GalaxyClient on D: drive
- Downloads in ProgramData
- GOG Games and Extras on C: drive

WHY!? Why can't it be like with Steam? Everyting WITHIN client folder? It works brilliantly and it's way more transparent than this mess. EA's Origin is doing the same crap and I hate it from the bottom of my heart. If I refresh my Windows 8.1 instalaltion I have to redownload 150 gigabytes of games just because of moronic client design. In Steam client, only thing that I have to re-download is the client itself, like 50MB and install it in the same folder as before. And that's it. No fiddling, no heavy downloading, it just works.

+GalaxyClient
+---DOWNLOADS
+---GAMES
+---EXTRAS

This is how I've arranged it now, but it' silly that it doesn't come this way out of the box.

And while I know this is Alpha build, minimizing to trey is a top priority must have feature. Without it, the whole existence of client is pointless.

I actually like the system here very much. I for instance have an ssd where I want all my games to be installed but neither the client nor the download data should take space on that drive.

So... your OS is not on your SSD? Or did you migrate your ProgramData?

nope my OS is on a different (very small) ssd.

Heh, that's one way of solving that problem :P

While this is something we'll definitely add at some point, have you tried lowering number of download threads in Client settings?
There will be achievements with score Gog?

I didnt tried, because i download only one game at same time already (too many games mean mess on my desktop). Maybe my internet is to slow to handle it (~10mbps). Anyway thanks for including this idea into future release of client, and good luck with it.
I have only been able to fiddle with the Galaxy Client for about a day now, the things i thought it needed, i will list. If my suggestions are somewhere back there im sorry, this is a 50 page thread and i cant read them all.
-Game Properties
-Customization game shelf
-User Profiles
-More Detailed options
-Game Timer
-Themes
-Bonus Content should totally be under the games name on the Game tab, in the shape of a treasure chest.
-Overlay, friends, FPS, CPU Usage, Temps, Google.
-Media player for the OSTs. I think it could be done very uniquely
-Free Cake.
Installing over a game that I already had before, when the client checks which files are already present, is making me seriously worried about the safety of my HDD. I've never heard it grind and screech so loudly.

PS. how do I attach more than one log file to a ticket?

If I recall correclty, you can add more files after you've finished submitting the issue and open it again.

Number of threads is how many concurrent connections are made while downloading. It has nothing to do with multiple files (the client will only download one at a time any way). Reducing the threads should effectively reduce the bandwidth you're using at a given time whilst downloading a game.
So I have a lot of gog games installed over 3 hard drives can I just copy and paste all the games into the galaxy games folder and it will find them or would I have to reinstall each one?

I don't have the alpha, but if I recall correctly from earlier posts I think you have to reinstall the game through Galaxy? I don't think the alpha has autodetection yet. Also, you may find out that some of your games don't show up in Galaxy's list of games that you own. That's normal, not all games on GOG currently have Galaxy support.
