Thank you Wyrm and the mods for the game! It was a heck of a lot of fun...in retrospect, I really wish I had toned down my claim a bit. I think it would have worked if I hadn't gone with the whole tier scoring system idea lol

bler144: 2) Krypsyn really put himself out there to help keep the game going, esp. early, and did it in such a way that lots of people were more inclined to believe he was town. It was the later discussion of hammering mechanics/scoring that tipped RW off, though ironically, what you seemingly were poised to claim was more or less CSP's actual role.
Yeah, I was pretty sure that is what got me killed. I just didn't see any way out; I had to take a gamble. I was sitting at 12 points, with no fast ways to gain points. Even if I killed off mercs as quickly as they revived to get points, I was still looking at 4 or 5 Days to get the points. I doubted I could make it that long without a longshot gambit, so I just threw a soft-claim out there.

I was going to be a Merchant and/or a recent immigrant to the town. I would get 5 points per assassin hammer, and -2 points per Merc killed. I actually was leaning towards getting no penalty for Town killed, just to mix it up. I am not sure what name I would have chosen. I was leaning towards Elim Garak, but since he was an assassin as well as a merchant in DS9, it might have gone sideways. I figured I would look it up when and if I required it; fantasy/sci-fi is lousy with innkeepers with grudges of some sort, after all.

Another one of those retrospect things...I should have hammered myself.

A_Future_Pilot: Another one of those retrospect things...I should have hammered myself.
I was planning to try that if I ever got a wagon on me, just to be a jerk-face and deny possible points. The trouble is that it would have fallen into the same L-2 problem that thwarted me Day 2 and Day 3. *sigh* ;)
Man was I so far off base on this one, I honestly didn't even care about the points when I was playing. I was all about town winning LOL. I guess if I had my own interest in hand I might have played a little different, oops :)

If anyone is wondering about the rock thing, during one of my chats with Bookwyrm he said I found a pretty rock so I decided to make it my pet and call it George :-D
Well first, about Krypsyn. I actually had you firmly town all day. I still had you firmly town as night fell. But then I went through player by player. AFP was all over Hunter Day 1, I really doubted he'd bus him day 1. JMich and Trent were on the AFP wagon before it was "fashionable". CSPVG arguably (if scum) was setting up AFP and JMich for the next two days but AFP flipped scum. So it was basically down to Lift or you, but I re-read Lift's posts (previously I ignored everything related to Drealmer) and the tipping point for him was when he recognized Drealmer didn't have a town PM as his read. That and he actually bussed AFP. So, by default, it had to be you, so I looked, said, well he didn't "actually" vote for AFP, so maybe it was a con job.

The other thing that didn't help you...
You claimed to need to hammer as I did, so even if I was wrong about you, at least it removed competition for the hammer.

Funny thing about my luck, I was not online much to hammer at all, but I got home from work and as soon as I log in, L-1. Then I wake up early, check the thread same thing. Pure luck

I was actually waiting for the hammer. Only to deny you, or anyone else, points. ;)

All in all, it doesn't matter. That is how it usually goes down. Scum cannot fool everyone forever; patterns emerge sooner or later, and only become more obvious as the Days pass. It is always a race against time as scum, and I ran out.

Yep. I figured it would. I was just hoping that you didn't have a NK option ... or that you Mercenaries wouldn't be able to gang up on me to get my lynched. Like I said: it was a long-shot. I didn't really expect it to work, but doing nothing wasn't going to work out in the end either.
About the points system, I thought that was a bit rough.
As Mercs we had to get the kills (hammer/vig) on 3 of the 4 Guild members or we lose. Two means we have to be perfect and live 6 days. Can't accidentally hammer a townie. Not easy to get to 20 at all. It took luck and skill.

On the easy side was Trenton, all he had to do was live 3 days to win because Reviving is automatically going to be a success. He literally received 7 points every day/night cycle he lives...

On the hard side were the Poison/Bleed preventers. There is a reason the Doctor is almost never able to protect anyone. As soon as you are sure who the target will be, the scum are sure its really obvious too...and they pick an unpredictable target.

I also think 2 points per day lived and 10 per success made it pretty easy for JMich. No one else cared if those targets got killed.

Off-topic: But the Mercs were more town than town.

You pretty much had me fooled except literally EVERYONE wanted to vote AFP. The other two off the vote, CSPVG suspiciously pushed AFP without voting and Hunter asked permission before voting to L - 1.

I actually thought I might be poisoned, so my Vig shot was my "Hail Mary" to reach 20 points.

You would have been my first pick, except I figured you would be high on any list to be protected. As it was, it was a toss up for me between Lifthrasil and trentonlf, as I figured both had pro-town power-roles, given their play, and one was probably the reviver. I failed the coin-flip on nailing the reviver, not that it mattered much to me anyway. I used our 1-shot Insta-kill Poison for that one, just so I could point finger at trentonlf for making a big deal about the time-delay for poisons if I survived. Very non-subtle, and not usually my style, but I felt out of options.

FWIW, JMich didn't get a flat 10 for success - and if one of his targets was NKed by someone else he was SOL. Though I think he had a slightly easier task than Hunter, since he actually controlled his own vig shot. Did a good job resisting the urge to spend it til he was sure.

That said, I think it's fine that the design ultimately meant not everyone could win, and a few people would need some luck or amazing moves (and we saw several). And keep in mind, if Trent had rezzed scum, you could've lynched them again for 1/2 points.

My worst-case thought, though, was that it was entirely possible at certain points that no one would win. Like, on N1 when it was clear the Bleeders were about to bow out (Agent the clear lynch for D2, yogs poisoned) and yogs was seriously pushing bleeding Trent before the Leonard fiasco and before Hunter bailed us all out by playing his blackmail chip.

I do agree Trent's role was the least reliant on chance, and made the same comment when we were finalizing game details in the last minute pre-game scramble. There was some risk that dead players would chose to perma-die and wouldn't be around to rez (or, y'know, get [mod-kill]ed), but barring that it was mostly a lay low and try to survive 4 days.

As noted above, he also came within a whisker of being killed by yogs, and no one was going to bring him back for a 2nd shot.

Leonard would have been quite happy if you'd picked Trent - pretty sure you're talking about the night Leonard guarded him. He was apparently more perceptive than the mods, as we were all flummoxed by his choice. But apparently he almost read your mind.

I will say I'm glad I called Lift out like I did. While I highly suspected him, that gave him a chance to respond, and he did convince me. Didn't help him much as he died anyway, but he moved from my planned Vig shot to #3 on the list. CSPVG was #2, since he didn't actually vote AFP either, so even though it was early, there was the possibility he was posturing, just in case AFP was his scum buddy and got revealed.

Yeah. You played a good game. Jerk. :)
I learned to look up my character name before name-dropping. Oooof. Still making noob mistakes, though I feel like I have a really good feel for reading people generally. Except trent. Damnit trent, why you always seem scummy to me when you're town?

I was pretty sure AFP and kryps were buddies from very early, I forget where, but something stood out to me that made me think they must be.

I obviously was bothered by the point system, but I appreciate the bravery of the experiment and the degree at which it was successful. I give you props, bookwyrm, even though I also gave you shit. To me, it's a team game, and I'm still new enough to not appreciate a setup that doesn't reward teamwork. I think if I were a more experienced player, it would have been a lot more rewarding for me simply for the change of pace/uniqueness. I'd love to play the setup again some day.

I love (now seeing) all the different roles and abilities and interactions. Very well done, bookwrym, and other moderators for helping.

I apparently fell completely off the leaderboard. *slips and bumps head*

And me. But that's mutual. Somehow we seem to see each other as scum, no matter what faction we actually are. And after I didn't listen to my gut feeling in the lovers game, I thought this time I'll follow it - and promptly it was wrong.

That's why you were the first team to be left with three players, and you had day chat. Can't kill a townie was there to keep the mercs from just shooting/hammering anything that moves (see previous about me trying to make thinking a requirement). You thought hard and were rewarded for it.

RWarehall: On the easy side was Trenton, all he had to do was live 3 days to win because Reviving is automatically going to be a success. He literally received 7 points every day/night cycle he lives...
Unlike every other player, Trent had to actually stay alive 4 days to win, when the majority of the other groups (including JMich, who was actively hunting him) had a kill to throw around, and also that if no one stayed in Limbo then Trent was boned. I'll agree that with most people focused on "Town vs Scum", Trent had an easier time than I expected. If JMich had vigged Trent on Day 3 instead of Hunter, Trent would not have hit the 20 points-from-objectives benchmark in spite of TownVScum.

avatar
RWarehall: On the hard side were the Poison/Bleed preventers. There is a reason the Doctor is almost never able to protect anyone. As soon as you are sure who the target will be, the scum are sure its really obvious too...and they pick an unpredictable target.
Agreed. In my pre-game mind, part of the mitigation here is that no one has a bounty on the doctors, and the mercs gain power if the assassins kill the docs or unpredictably kill townies.

avatar
RWarehall: I also think 2 points per day lived and 10 per success made it pretty easy for JMich. No one else cared if those targets got killed.
JMich got 5 for a wagon, 10 for a hammer, 16 for a dayvig (in case I needed to cut it in half for vigging a revived player), and 10 for a NK. He only had the one vig shot, though, so he needed to get a wagon going for the other player to go down, and you saw how that almost worked on Day 5.

drealmer7: To me, it's a team game, and I'm still new enough to not appreciate a setup that doesn't reward teamwork.
It did require teamwork. It just didn't have the normal team divisions, and a number of players could have made their own teams. It would have been feasible for some of the townspeople to work with an assassin team, though it would have made for a nervous alliance for the townsperson in question.
