If you don't care about any of those things then the GOG version should be good enough for you. :) I'm okay with having a lower price due to the unavailable Steam-exclusive features.

It has everything to do with the linked discussion on Steam forums, with these bullshit double-standards "Steam DRM is quite fine... BUT HEAVEN FORBID IF THE GAME HAS SECUROM!!!11!!1! GRAAAAAAAH!!!! WHAT IF THEY CLOSE DOWN SOME DAY, OR THE DRM SOMEHOW PREVENTS ME FROM PLAYING MY GAME?".

Hypocrites.

Because Securom adds zero value to anything (other than peace of mind for gaming companies) and is there only to add risk of losing access your game? Sure, some people would say the same about Steam, but each his own. I don't even see how Securom value could be a matter of discussion.

Choosing among some risks and some benefits, some risks and no benefits, and even more risks and some benefits (that would be Steam + Securom, in case that wasn't clear), I'd pick the first.

Well I choose DRM-free. If a game I really want to play comes with any form of DRM (Steam included) and I feel it is worthy of purchasing now. I play it and wait for the publishers to release a DRM-free version.
Any DRM, even Steam have the simple problem that they limit my ability to install a game I have paid for where I want.
I do not have to purchase a second music CD to listen to the music in my car, or an mp3 download too so I can listen on the go. I have one CD and I choose where and how I listen to my music. I want the same form of freedom with my games.

I did this with Sacred 2 - bought it again on GamersGate - and I will wait again for Hitman Absolution, Saints Row 3 and The Walking Dead to become DRM-free. Then I will happily rebuy them.

Tempted on Dead Rising Off the Record, but since it's not Steamworks I'd rather wait and get it elsewhere. Wish Gamersgate would price match.

It may seem that way, but I've honestly had a couple go-arounds with SecuROM DRM not allowing me access to my purchased games, so I can understand why people would view it as a deal-breaker.

Also I would trust Steam to be around a lot longer than SecuROM servers.

Haven't you been saying all along that it doesn't matter is Steam servers ever go offline, because one could always simply crack his Steam games and continue playing them, or the game companies themselves could also patch the games out of Steam dependency? Why don't those same arguments apply similarly to SecuROM?

That's exactly the kind of double-standards I am talking about. Also, you are just guessing that Valve's Steam servers would be around longer than Sony's SecuROM servers. Then again that is completely irrelevant to this discussion anyway.

I need to remember this discussion next time you proclaim that Steam DRM doesn't matter.

With GFWL dead it got a patch that removed, in my opinion, one of the worst DRM schemes and in the process we got a 10$ DLC for free. Now that was neat.
