It's a lovely game that I played without incident at length in 2006 after buying it new in late 2001 or early 2002 but quitting early.

I made it quite far, only to realize that I didn't complete the main quest in the correct sequence, and none of my saved games went back far enough to the pivotal event in the quest's progression. I gave up in frustration after that.

I still like the game, and I intend to buy it from GOG and see it through to completion. This time, however, I will have a walkthrough on hand to make sure I follow all the correct paths. This flaw reminds me of Star Control 2, Realms of Arkania 2, Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall, and even Wing Commander 3 in that respect. I highly recommend that you guys who do check out this game make sure to use a walkthrough and spare yourself needless frustration.

Very cool!

I know a lot didn't like this one, but I thought it was pretty good. It brought back things they took out in Might and Magic 8, and it was filled with Might and Magic humour. I think a lot of people forget, or maybe they miss, the humour that's in the series. I really didn't like the character portraits though, some of them could have been done better, although having the wrestler "The Rock" tag along with my party was pretty silly.

I forgot if I experienced bugs in it when I played it years ago, but I did play all the way through it without any serious trouble(since I did beat it after all). It's a great addition to Might and Magic, for the humour and for bringing back the things they took out in Might and Magic 8. The graphics were pretty good too, and nice sound effects. Not as good music as previous ones, but the tracks are decent. I'll be buying this DRM free version for sure!

Friend of mine referred to this as "AIDS." So I think i'll pass.

This is a piece of shit! It should never have been released on GOG!

Take this from a hardcore fan of Might and Magic!

It's not that bad. MoO3 is still worse. :)

In my opinion it is better to not release anything, than release such a pile of crap on gog.com! Seriously guys - why???

GOG.com: This is the last game of the genre-defining series, the final adventure.
You want to know why? Because Might and Magic was killed. Part 6 to 8 were still nice, but part 9 was such a piece of garbage that it ruined 3DO.

At least the GOG version includes the community patches that make the game playable. (!) It is still far from good. If you want good and accessible Might & Magic titles, play part 3 through 8. If accessibility is no issue, play 1 through 8. Stay away from 9 in any case!

I'll answer that for them. As long as there's anyone who likes this game and going to buy it - it's worth it. If you don't like it - ignore it. But why the heck it shouldn't be released only because there are trolls who don't likes it? This game is for those who want's to play last game of glorious series of Might & Magic and judge it themselves. It's better to have a choice than not to have! Peace.=]

3DO was ruined already. It took down M&M on the way out.

Yes, I really agree - I don't understand how some people can overreact so much over the release of a game that they don't want. It's not like they are forced to buy it and you just have to wait a few days until the next release.

I guess it just bothers me because if you read this thread it's obvious that there is a fair amount of people who really wanted this game and are happy that it's here. It feels strange that the people who hate it think that they are the only ones who have an opinion that matters and the ones who want the game shouldn't get it...

I don't want the game, but it sure doesn't bother me that it's here. It's not like this is a TV-channel where bringing on a bad show means that they'll have to ditch another show to get a time slot for it - all the other games are still here and available for purchase, even if they put up some games that I don't want along side them.

Well, maybe because this site is called GOOD.old.games? You know, I kind of love this place.

Also, I've spent countless hours playing M&M games (except IX) And also I've played couple of good old titles I've missed in the past. I mean - I actually bought a few games thinking "If it is on GOG it is good". Doesn't feel like that anymore :(

Seeing M&M IX here was like comming home and finding out you've got a huge hole in your floor leading to stinking sewers.

That said, I see your point. Just need to think better now before buying a title I didn't play before from GOG, that's all. Peace :)

Well as I said I do see a lot of people here who are happy about the release - so it just proves that "good" is a very subjective thing. What you think is bad can be good (or at least good enough to buy) for someone else.

But ok, I can see that it bothers you if you buy games because you think they must be good if they are on GOG. I guess I never considered that because I know that I don't like all the games here :) Even some of the highest rated games on GOG are ones that I don't like, because again "good" is such a subjective measure. So I don't trust anyone else to tell me what's good :)

THIS. Good god. 3DO was having financial problems before even the release of M&M 8. 9 was nothing more than a casualty of them hemorrhaging money for several years and subsequently releasing the title as a last ditch effort to slap a band-aid over a gushing artery.

Romiras: snip
Think about it this way: it is a chance for people who have never played it to give it now a try and judge for themselves.

Having played it myself back when it was released I would not recommend it to anyone as a good ol' game, sure, but I still think any fan of the series should give it a try. It's not all bad. It just falls short of the series overall quality.

I also have friends who really like Daikatana so, who knows, maybe this title will garner some fans as well.

I'm very tolerant if it comes to games & usually try to see something nice in even the worst (I even got myself liking enough aspects of Orion3 to occasional fire it up) but M&M9...? I'm very seriously surprised it has so many (more than one) people liking it. oO

Sure, because the whole 3D thing was a bad idea. I mean, the games were good on their own, but reviews didn't like them.

Uh, no. It was a hell of a lot more complex than just that one issue, ranging across a host of failed spin-offs and dying franchises (Army Men, anyone?). While reviewers didn't react well to the graphics in any of the latter three it wasn't that it was a bad idea, it was that it was executed comparatively poorly, with 7 and 8 managing to look rougher than 6 in many ways, and 9, as has already been mentioned, shunted out well in advance of when it should have been (not that having extra time would've done anything for a deliberate graphical choice other than perhaps to round out a lot of the obvious edges, or the choice of engine that they utilized).
