As it is written in the title, this game is a port from the phone which in turn is a port from the PC. Terrible management spoils all the good feelings that gives this game.
All the ratings appeared pretty old, so I bought it just to see whether or not their complaints were still the case. I can tell you that they're still one-hundred percent accurate. I do not know for certain if this is a phone app port, but it definitely feels like it. Right off the bat, my cursor does not appear in game. I had to guess where my mouse is and click around until I got in game. Even then, my cursor still wasn't showing. It would be impossible to play this game without being able to see where you're clicking.
I saw that some of the other reviews had mentioned that there was a free version. It does exist, and I'm not entirely certain if I'm allowed to post the link here. It doesn't have any of the intro graphics or in-game menus. You set which map you're going to play and all of the options in advance and then it loads the game with that map. The controls were quirky for it. I'm on a larger monitor, 1920x1080, and it didn't really look good. Also, after I clicked things, my mouse kept jumping to the bottom right-hand side of my screen. It seems like, whether you buy this game or download that, you're going to have issues trying to play this.
... I am not sure why, but it doesn't feel as responsive as I expected. Especially since this remake works well on the iPad and Android.
The Zod engine Open Source remake plays much faster and feels more enjoyable.
So I tried both the GOG version and the DOS version of the game, because all the cry babies complained about (1) the cluncky controls of the game that (2) the pathfinding is terrible, (3) the scrolling is slow etc etc.
Check this out, all of the issues exist in the original game to.
The only thing I prefer in the original is the menu... that's it.
In the new version you can choose the difficulty and due to the higher resolution setup you can see through the map, which makes the unit control easier(for me at least).
Is it cluncky? Yes, because it is an old game.
Great adaptation.
