The year is 2673, four years after the Treaty of Torgo and the end of the Kilrathi War. As hostilities died out, more trivial concerns like rebuilding what was lost or dealing with space piracy, became the biggest concerns of the Terran Confederation. Even Christopher "Maverick" Blair, the famous Confed pilot responsible for ending the war, settled down and became a farmer. In these times of peace, humans grew fat and complacent. All good things must end, though. Soon enough, heinous incidents erupted on the outskirts of the Confederation, and humanity was forced to the brink of civil war. Confed HQ needed the best and decided to recall Colonel Blair to active duty.
Me and this game have a history. It was one of the first games my parents got me and I'm in love with it ever since. But for me it is more than nostalgia. The game is simply brilliant!
Great non-linear story, great cutscenes.
The FMV parts alone are a great SciFi movie with big name cast.
Mix this with some great gameplay and you have one of the best games (or space sims at least) ever made.
Even trying to be very objective one has to concede that WC IV is a timeless classic. Due to its fantastic atmosphere, and its pioneerism. Back at the time it was the kind of game you have been waiting for several months, and when it finally appeared it was pretty much the climax of what computer games were capable of in 1995. As many of the previous reviewers stated, the game had a great story, wonderful gameplay - and in the end credible and memorable characters. My favorite, by the way. was John Rhys-Davies, but also Jason Bernard (Captain Eisen).
I am myself no native english speaker, but the word, that describes this game best I think is "iconic" - iconic for the early days of space sagas. But in its great making and its superb "adventure" not only something "of the past", but truly timeless.
you ever watched the new battlestar galactica, well check out WC4 its so obvious that show ripped off a lot from this game just saying
this game has
great chacters
great script
great acting
and rock solid gameplay that has age pretty well all things considered
9.5/10
An excellent game that managed to expand on the brilliant univerese of WC. the story actually lets you make a choice how you want the game to go. the movies are excellent, love the acting. they really know how to setup each mission.
space combat is enjoyable and there's plenty of way to destory your enemies.
A must for any WC fan and you'll enjoy it if you like epic stories or space combat sims.
