由Cavedog Entertainment首席设计师Chris Taylor主导开发，《横扫千军》是一款即时策略（RTS）游戏。本作最初于1997年9月30日发售，这款游戏同时也是有史以来第一款拥有3D单位与地形的即时策略游戏。游戏拥有两个扩展包：于1998年4月30日推出的《核心危机》，以及于两个月后的1998年6月30日推出的《战斗策略》。在《横扫千军》推出时，当时游戏的最低电脑配置要求还是奔腾100 MHz处理器以及16MB内存。当然那只是针对1997年的电脑规格的要求，现代的设备早已大大超出当时的推荐配置，但考虑到此版游戏使用了更新后的游戏引擎，我们推荐玩家使用达到至少1 GHz处理器以及512MB内存配置的设备来游玩。
在遥远的未来，一个被称为核心（Core，“集体意识库”的缩写）的中央化人类与人工智能组织统治者全宇宙。凭借核心超乎想象的科技与经济发展，人类已经定居银河系中的绝大多数星球，全宇宙的居民享受着持久的和平与繁荣。但是，一项允许人类意识转移到机器躯体内的革命性科技打破了原有的平衡，这种被称为“复刻”的手段理论上能够赋予人类永恒的生命。当核心宣布法令以“公共安全“为理由强制要求全人类进行“复刻”，由银河系边缘地带的殖民地（旋臂这个名字也来源于此）组成的叛军势力便揭竿而起，旋臂的成员们拒绝放弃自己的身体并加入核心的机器意识。双方展开了一场持续4000年的战争，旋臂方面使用量产型的克隆体来操作战争载具，而核心阵营则通过不断复制嵌入人类意识的微型芯片来操作己方阵营的机器。

3 dimensional real time strategy.
after some experiences with 2d flat style RTS games, this game was a huge surprising enjoyment. its no wonder this game inspired so many sequel spin offs and open source alternatives early rudimentary gameplay? not at all, its a highly competent entry to RTS GET TOTALA

A LEGENDARY RTS for beginners...
Yes, this game leaves aside all the crap about micromanaging units and other crap and focuses more on action, with as little management as possible. I'm not really into Warcraft, StarCraft and any other "traditional" RTS, as they are boring with their micromanagement and some RPG features. Honestly? Buy this GREAT ACTION RTS! And use this get the most out of the image: https://github.com/FunkyFr3sh/cnc-ddraw Note: There is no better RTS on GOG than this! Or rather, there is: Total Annihilation - Kingdoms. As good as the first. =)

Still returning to this true legend RTS
My TA memories goes 25 years to the past and I still remember epic graphical explosion effects and spectalular game music. I love vannila game without 3.1 patch, which ruins original campaign feel a little (all missions are vissible, shadowed items in build inventory). No other game is like TA: you can fly with your Freedom Fighter, relaxing by avoiding anti-air rockets from the Jethros, shoot with your Hammers close enough to use ballistics advantage.. This is just a masterpiece and everyone should explore this great game.

Greatest game ever
One of the best RTS of all time, never played PvP but the PvE and the contingency expansion is really difficult but fun to play and learn the new worlds.
