A Beautiful Classic!
All time classic. Plays very smooth today. To me, graphics still hold up today. Great variety of units. Loved it when it came out! Love it now!

由Cavedog Entertainment首席设计师Chris Taylor主导开发,《横扫千军》是一款即时策略(RTS)游戏。本作最初于1997年9月30日发售,这款游戏同时也是有史以来第一款拥有3D单位与地形的即时策略游戏。游戏拥有两个扩展包:于1998年4月30日推出的《核心危机》,以及于两个月后的1998年6月30日推出的《战斗策略》。在《横扫千军》推出时,当时游戏的最低电脑配置要求还是奔腾100 MHz处理器以及16MB内存。当然那只是针对1997年的电脑规格的要求,现代的设备早已大大超出当时的推荐配置,但考虑到此版游戏使用了更新后的游戏引擎,我们推荐玩家使用达到至少1 GHz处理器以及512MB内存配置的设备来游玩。

Classic for a reason
Great game! The graphics are a bit grainy, the interface could use some improvements (key mappings!) but the raw gameplay itself is as good as everyone says. It's just plain fun to build up your base, fend off attack waves, and ultimately overcome and destroy all enemies. There's also a rich history and series of spinoff games & mods to discover from this classic RTS. I was out of practice with RTS games and delved back in with Supreme Commander (which is also excellent) but there was so much to learn that I took a step back to Total Annihilation -- glad I did! There's a nice ramp-up for the learning curve, playing through the campaign. That campaign experience alone was worth the full price, and now I'm still enjoying the expansions. One killer feature is the ability to queue commands while paused. It gives you time to really think and strategize. There's definitely still a sense of time pressure as with any RTS, but the command-while-paused feature is a game changer for those who like to contemplate and execute detailed plans.

The Exception
I always disliked RTS games. Fair to say I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. I loved Total Annihilation! Nuff said.

Classic 90s gem
I'm loving playing this game again!! I played this when I was in my teens in the late 90s and early 2000s. This is my 'go to' game when I want a hit of nostaliga. How much technology has changed... I'm playing in 2025 on a Dell XPS laptop witha 4K OLED screen and RTX graphics card. The game scales beatifully and has done so for many years no matter what hardware it's played on.

One of the All-Time Best
Total Annihilation made a break from the conventions of the RTS genre by providing infinite resources, practically infinite unit variety (with the expansions), and a seemingly endless number of strategies in a game that could become a real marathon meatgrinder. The original is still superior in many ways to its spiritual sequels, Supreme Commander 1 and 2. But what it and its unofficial follow-ons all share is a visceral battlefield full of rocking artillery, explosions, machine-gun fire, and mayhem. Unfortunately, outside of the campaigns, the AI had a nasty tendency to send its commander out on a suicide run to guarantee a stalemate. You can get around that by turning off the option to end the game with commander destruction, but then you are REALLY getting into a slugfest if it doesn't end with an early rush. But those are minor issues. This is simply one of the classics - easily up there with the original Starcraft and Age of Empires II in my mind.
