Having received training from an enigmatic organization known as the Keepers, Garrett leaves the order and goes back to the life of a thief on the streets of the City. Once you enter the underworld you have to deal with all the consequences - you are not the only one out there looking for decent loot. Hide in the shadows of the dark, savage city. Sneak into old ruins, haunted cathedrals and mansions of the rich. Incapacitate your enemies quietly or in an open fight. This unique sneak-em-up game provides you with a range of means to achieve your goal. Remember though - secrecy is your best friend.
THIEF™ GOLD is a first-person perspective stealth game. It was the first game to use light and sound gameplay mechanics – different surfaces cause varying noise (for example carpets are quiet and ceramic tiles are very loud). You can use sound to your advantage - it’s not only your main source of information on how close your enemies are but you can use it to distract them, for example by throwing objects. With unscripted levels, and objectives and paths altered based on difficulty settings, THIEF™ GOLD can give you hours of non-repetitive gameplay.
Thief: The Dark Project (c) Square Enix Limited 1998, 2012
Yeah, this is my favorite game of all-time. Extremely tense gameplay and a slowly evolving plot that elevates the stakes to gargantuan levels. Such a vivid world is created here, with very impressive richness and depth. This game is a masterpiece. Time Magazine named it one of the 100 Greatest Video Games of All-Time. An immensely deserved accolade.
This is the game that change the game world in terms of stealth playing games. all current stealth games stick to the basics that this games used and enhanced upon it. so if you are fan of stealth genre games get this one and play for you will see what i meant above.
Can definitely recommend for everyone into stealth games.
Positives: already discussed.
Negatives:
* Mission 6 - Thieves' Guild is utterly confusing and mazy map ever
* Wonky AI at times
This is, more or less, the fantasy successor to System Shock. While it is mission based rather than constant, Thief shines because of a detailed world, suspenseful gameplay, a strong story, and fantastic art direction.
Thief: The Dark Project stands beside Half Life as the most influential 'FPS' ('First Person Shooter') titles ever made. DOOM and Quake were the birth of the genre, but Thief and Half Life were where the fps genre grew wings. In a time when we are besieged by FPS titles focused heavily on merging ultra-violence with tomorrow's technology, Thief is the exact opposite. This is, like Half Life, a game all about it's story, it's protagonist, and it's utterly enthralling world.
Looking Glass Studios didn't have 7.1 surround sound to work with. Nor did they have HDR lighting - or even Bloom! - but my gods they made atmosphere anyway. They turned the footsteps and mutter of an approaching guard into something that made your blood run cold for a moment. They turned the moaning shamble of a zombie into something that genuinely inspired fight or flight. This wasn't merely the 'Amnesia' of it's day: it's the game that inspired every pulse-pounding, nerve-racking, 'crouching in the shadows praying' moment in every title that followed it.
Thief Gold isn't merely a Good Old Game: it's one of the landmarks in gaming history. Absolutely every gamer should own this game and it's equally brilliant sequels.
