The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky

Modern society owes much to a mystical technology known as “orbal energy.” Fifty years ago, during what’s come to be known as the “Orbal Revolution,” the invention of this technology and the “orbments” developed from it led to a period of rapid human advancement, birthing innovations of all shapes and sizes -- not the least of which was the airliner, or “orbalship” industry. Although the positive impact of this revolution is obvious, every coin has a flipside; for every beneficial device developed with these new materials, so too were advanced weapons and other implements of war. Thus, the land became mired with turmoil, and remains in such a state even now.
Enter, the bracers: an organization established to serve as police and intermediaries alike, holding above all else the peace and safety of the lands under their jurisdiction. Whenever a citizen is in need of assistance, he or she may place a request at the local Bracer Guild -- and be it monster extermination, crime prevention or even peace talks among warring nations, the bracers will do whatever they can to resolve the matter cleanly and efficiently.
Some matters require a gentler touch than others, however. When an orbalship transporting a legendary "S-rank" bracer named Cassius Bright suddenly goes missing, said bracer's daughter, Estelle, and adoptive son, Joshua, must join forces in search of him across the entire Kingdom of Liberl.
And what they find along the way could change both of their lives forever...

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is a fantastic example of starting a long-running series off right, with lovable characters and an intricate world tied together with an intriguing political narrative. While it takes a while to get going and is very long-winded, it's incredibly enjoyable and leaves you wanting more.

Speed it up
Well, gosh. It certainly *looks* like a very nice JRPG, but the dialogue trickles out at a snail's pace with no option to speed it up in any way, and in any event it's not that interesting to read unless you think the Twilight series is great literature. Also, the cutscenes are tedious and unskippable. In my opinion, this game is unplayable in its current state, and I feel like I wasted my money. Short story: if you loved Xenogears, you'll like this game. But if you prefer *playing* a game to *reading* one, I suggest you spend your money on something else.

Nothing to write home about
The good: I want to see more J-RPGs on the PC. The bad: I only played the game on the PSP and then the battle music was awful. I do hope they changed it for the PC version. The story is not very exciting.

Well made, unsatisfied Christian player
Game looks good and was well made. For that I can applaud it. The story starts out a little slow, but I could get past it. I really liked the magic system, with the orbments. Also the battle system is pretty cool. I enjoyed all the features, special attacks, the animations. All five star. The writing was good, but I did get offended once, whether intentional or not. Some people will not share this sentiment. I feel there was a low blow to real world religion in the beginning, when poking fun at 'Sunday School'. Really, it's not an issue for me most of time, but I feel these kinds of remarks shouldn't pop up in kiddie RPGs. I wanted to enjoy this like FF7. I decided to remove the game.
