My take on this game and my rant

I've been waiting over 10 years to play this game because of the DRM, so this is absolutely my first time playing this game. My review isn't based on nostalgia or hype. This, my friends, is an honest review. However, the damn game is over 10 years old so if you are reading reviews to help you decide if you should buy this game, you are a moron. YouTube gameplay videos are what should help you decide if this game is for you. Okay, many hours into this game now. The graphics, for such an old game, are not bad at all. The combat is a little clunky, feels more mechanical than smooth. The voiceovers could be better but not bad enough for an eye roll. The movement through this vast world is smooth, there's no lag. The quests, like in Oblivion, are numerous so there's plenty to keep you busy. The main story line/quest will make you want to continue; it's not boring. The Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim has me lost in its world. No, this game is not Witcher 3 but, like its predecessor, Oblivion, Skyrim has me excited explore this giant sandbox. If you like fantasy ARPGs, and you have viewed gameplay on YouTube, well then, you know this game is for you. I'm giving this game a 5 star rating because, fuck, it's fun to play! And now my rant...limited on characters, had to erase a bunch. Don't knock a game because of what you hate about GOG or the company who manufactured the game. Rate all games based on gameplay, not your personal grudges. Honestly, GOG is the only legitimate site I know of which provides DRM free games. You fuckers should be grateful this site exists. GOG has allowed me to play games on a modern system which, without their engineering, I wouldn't be able to play. Props to Jim Beam Fire for this alcohol infused review. You got a problem with this review, lol, who cares?

Best computer game of all time.

I'll say it up front; this is my favorite computer game. It's nice to finally be able to buy the actual game instead of just the right to ask Steam for permission to play the game. Skyrim may be over 10 years old, but it's aged well. You might find better graphics in certain games these days, but Skyrim's graphics are still pretty solid, especially with the improvements in the Special Edition. In addition, the open world design lets you play the game the way you want. If you want to rush through the main quest early and fight an epic battle every 5 minutes, you can. Or if you want to practice your crafting skills to improve your equipment so much that you can one-shot dragons with a sneak attack from your bow, you can do that too. (Admit it. You always fall back to the stealthy archer play style too) I would give it 5 stars except for two issues. First, no Creation Kit. You can't create your own mods unless you also have the Steam version. Second, the game doesn't make it easy to install mods or disable Creation Club creations. Survival mode enabled by default with no way to disable it inside the game? Did no one involved in this release consider that some people might find this "enhancement" frustrating and tedious, and maybe giving players an easy way to disable it might be a good idea? After digging around online I discovered you can add mods and disable Creation Club content by editing text files manually, which I'm not afraid to do, but come on! Players shouldn't have to do this in order make use of one of Skyrim's greatest features. Despite my whining, I'm still overjoyed that Skyrim is now on GOG. It's still my favorite computer game of all time, and these issues don't change that. Play the game the way you want, but be prepared to do some manual tasks outside the game if the way you want doesn't quite fit the default configuration of the game.

What a time to be alive!

This has to be one of the best news on GOG, in what feels like an eternity. If you owned the game before or at least you've heard of it, you're in for a fine treat. If not, it is about time to go and get this gem. Especially if you are someone who is into modding. Since Skyrim SE modding is on the rise, with new and innovative mods that change core mechanics or add to them, you won't be disappointed. If you are not, you should still consider to at least go to a modding platform like Nexus and get the unofficial patch, which not only fixes lot's of problems, but is also constantly maintained and updated. So...what are you waiting for? Get this old gem and relive the glorious days of old.

Stick to the cheaper Special Edition

Stick to the much cheaper Special Edition of Skyrim. The extra content included here is just Bethesda's cash grab attempts at providing modder content but all of it falls far short of the actual high quality you've come to expect from the dedicated modding community.

Took them long enough

Basically the BEST version of Skyrim. - DRM-free - all the DLCs and community contents included - it supports Switchable GPUs like Nvidia Optimus. Something the day1 release of Skyrim did not support. So if you have a laptop or a low power gaming PC with switchable GPUs or an APU, this version here runs with it. (tested on a Asus ROG GR6 with Intel HD 5500 and Nvidia GTX960M) However the Special Edition also installs ALL the language packs at once. No way to chose during install. So if you do not need the other ones, delete them manually after the game was installed. Not only will the game run perfectly fine, you also save a ton of Storage space. However keep in mind that not all mods will work, unless they are deliberately made for the Special Edition or are at least made compatible.
