Worth it. With some comments, though
First things first, let me TL;DR you - I recommend the game. If you want to know specifics and my negative comments as well, keep reading. Nostalgia is a powerful substance and it is perfectly capable of carrying you throughan experience all on its own. Add a little bit of flare and some improvements, and it becomes quite enjoyable. That's how I would describe Syberia Remastered. I first played it in 2004 and it remained one of my all - time favourite games. Once I heard about the Remaster I was excited beyond belief. I waited and waited, watched the snippets, the trailers and finally, when it released I got on it immediately. Ok, intro over. When it comes to gameplay and in-game aesthetics, Syberia Remastered soars almost perfectly. The graphics are great, camera movement is amazing, and it feels very modern, but also very true to the beautiful aesthetic of the original. They did not do that dirty. The 'almost' part is reserved for Kate.... and specifically her face.... that lifeless wide - eyed zombie face almost threw me off and I'm happy it's not that visible most of the time. I'm sorry but that is a miss like no other. The original model is far superior. Apart from that, the visuals are nice(and no, I do not have an issue specifically with the non-remastered cutscenes. It would have been nice to have them remastered, yes, but for me it enhanced the nostalgia and brought back even more memories) In terms of gameplay: I like the new camera movement. That's pretty much it. Most of the rest, apart from some simplified puzzles, is the same. Most..... I have to ask - why would you put marked dots for the things you can interact with? The original games have precisely that beautiful aesthetic of you needing a keen eye and to hover your circular cursor over said item and seeing if it will glow, or not. Having these marks just makes it way more easy. I would have loved to have the option for the original setting. In my opinion as a whole, a fleshing out and visual modernizing of this game would have gone better if it was just that, without changing the appearance as a whole, but rather enhancing it. I do like that they did not touch the VAs. In overall, this game has always been heaviliy carried by the in-game aesthetics, conversations, Oscar, and the gameplay. The Remaster handles almost all of this well enough, and most of all, without disrespect. You can argue they were lazy for not remastering the cutscenes and so on, but still, what they have done, was with respect to the original. We can only hope they can improve for the potential remaster of Syberia 2 Thank you for reading.
