SimCity™ 2000 Special Edition

I remember playing this on my 233 Win 98 machine. Classic now as it was then. One of the things I really liked to do was set up a city, or remodel one of the pre-built ones, and then export it into SimCopter. You played the part of a helicopter pilot and not only did you get to fly around your simcity - you could land the copter and walk around too. The game generated accidents to attend, medical emergencies to airlift victims from, traffic jams to 'un-jam' speeding cars to chase down and fires to put out. It would be great if GOG could get the license to offer this game. I'd definitely buy it.

This would be amazing, if it was the improved Special Edition windows 95 version which had better resolution, diasters, and the urban renewal kit. This is just the older MS-DOS version, not the true special edition!

I haven't the faintest idea why GOG would have this version rather then the superior windows version. Gog normally does very well but this one isn't it. I wished I didn't buy it. great game with great memories, but this one I cannot play in the dosbox version

I bought this game hoping it was the Windows version I purchased on CD-ROM a long time ago. Unfortunately, it is the MS-DOS version, instead of the Windows 95 version. I don't know why GOG chose to offer the MS-DOS version instead of the Windows 95 version, as it is a 32 bits app which can run on Windows 64 bits

Yes, the graphics may feel a bit outdated compared to current city building simulators. But no matter how much fancy 3D-water-reflection in real time they may add, none of them feels like SimCity 2000. This game is a relict from the times where game design was more important than graphics only. Everywhere you click, you see that the creators really knew what they were doing. Modern games get a new release every year and still are full of bugs and (design) flaws. A year later, the previous versions are already forgot. But SimCity 2000 is still popular after almost two decades. My mobile phone today is more powerful than the desktop-filling computer I first played SimCity 2000 on. It still binds me longer to the monitor than any current game can. Yes, I admit, that's quite an emotional and not really fact-based review, but most people knowing SC2000 know what I'm talking of.
