You play Sanjuro Makabe, a Mobile Combat Armor (MCA) pilot and Commander in the UCA Security Force. The UCA was originally formed by three dominant megacorporations (Andra Biomechanics, Armacham Technology Corporation, and Shogo Industries). Originally intended as a joint venture that would ensure the continued profitability of the three organizations that founded it, the UCA is now independent, and the dominant military power in existence.
Your mission is to locate and assassinate a rebel leader known only as Gabriel. All of the action takes place either on the planet Cronus or on the spaceship Leviathan. The Leviathan is the flagship of the UCA and is commanded by Admiral Akkaraju. Cronus is the only known source of the biologically active material known as Kato, an incredibly powerful energy source essential to the process by which interstellar travel is possible.
Your deadly enemy is The Fallen, a fanatical terrorist group lead by the mysterious Gabriel, threatens the balance of power on Cronus, and ultimately, control of Kato. You will fight them on your feet or from within one of the different types of Mobile Combat Armor, a giant mech which can run, duck, strafe, swim or transform into an ultrafast hovertank.
You will know the true power of giant robots!
Anime-influenced graphics and gameplay design
Fight on foot or pilot a giant mech in both open and urban environments
An interesting storyline with two possible endings
The game itself is awesome. Mechs, anime satire, big guns, japanese plot tropes... And non-stop action! And thanks to the artwork, game still looks OK.
But dear GOG, do something with music playback ingame. When i'm in main menu - music is working just fine. But in game? Total silence. It's kinda strange and looks like some sort of sound card emulation issue.
Tested on me MacBook Pro with Win7 and PC with Xonar Essence STX.
I found it on the sale bin of a store and I said, robots? why not? It was very cheap. I installed, played lot of times ( it is my most played game of all times), uninstalled... after a while, wanted to play it again, but the cd didn't install... It was so cheap, that I bought it again!
Shogo has always been a favorite of mine, and despite the character models not aging terribly well and some dated mechanics, it is a very fun game... If you can get it working properly..
GOG didn't do a terribly good job of polishing this gem up and it's still got a little dirt on it.. While this game is VERY much worth the money, and it does technically work.. That's all it does... Out of the "box" it is not at all optimized for modern video cards and your framerate will suffer horribly as a result. Your music will also more than likely not work... Like me and others, you'll likely be adding dgVoodoo and making a hex edit to the games AM18.dll to fix the problems that really shouldn't have been there..
So while it's fantastic, buyer beware if you don't want to do any extra tinkering...
In old day's game's have souls and this game is one of theme.
It's ANIME type of game with Gundam's what peopel want more ^^
Sarcastic hero , Gundam's , good story telling wonderful game 5/5
It's a game with a unique design and atmosphere. Take some time and feel the ambience of the game world between fights - it's absolutely stunning.
The feel of guns, especially in human missions is insane. You can see some elements in Shogo that were later developed in F.E.A.R - bullet impacts, reflections, explosions.
And finally - one of the best soundtacks in the gaming history.
What a game!!!
