You play Sanjuro Makabe, a Mobile Combat Armor (MCA) pilot and Commander in the UCA Security Force. The UCA was originally formed by three dominant megacorporations (Andra Biomechanics, Armacham Technology Corporation, and Shogo Industries). Originally intended as a joint venture that would ensure the continued profitability of the three organizations that founded it, the UCA is now independent, and the dominant military power in existence.
Your mission is to locate and assassinate a rebel leader known only as Gabriel. All of the action takes place either on the planet Cronus or on the spaceship Leviathan. The Leviathan is the flagship of the UCA and is commanded by Admiral Akkaraju. Cronus is the only known source of the biologically active material known as Kato, an incredibly powerful energy source essential to the process by which interstellar travel is possible.
Your deadly enemy is The Fallen, a fanatical terrorist group lead by the mysterious Gabriel, threatens the balance of power on Cronus, and ultimately, control of Kato. You will fight them on your feet or from within one of the different types of Mobile Combat Armor, a giant mech which can run, duck, strafe, swim or transform into an ultrafast hovertank.
You will know the true power of giant robots!
Anime-influenced graphics and gameplay design
Fight on foot or pilot a giant mech in both open and urban environments
An interesting storyline with two possible endings
Time once was that you could only pilot mechs as a simulator, but this was one of those gems for PC that put it on par with Armored Core: Fast-Paced, Full Auto fun. Granted, I was only able to play it once (windows took a "upgrade" turn later that made the game unplayable), but if you enjoyed Armored Core, this too will give you some level of satisfaction. I see a lot of reviews from people just now playing it for the first time, and you have to remember that back in the mid/late 90s, this was awesome . . . you could literally shoot at the wall and write your name. There was a level of graphics detail here that didnt exist with most other games.
I played this game when it first came out and was shocked at how little attention it received. I still remember reading the PC Gamer article on it at release and being really excited to go pick it up. It is not as complex and flexible as some of the other mech games, but you have the benefit of being able to play on foot and in the mech. It's also pretty casual and not super involved.
I have vivid memories of playing this in LAN parties many years ago and everyone who played it really enjoying it. I highly recommend checking this out, the game has aged well and it's definitely worth the $6.
underatted game several people seem to forget this gem which is ashame because its worth it the shooting is well made especially for monolith. the main theme is pretty good. better than blood 2 my 2nd favorite game from monolith
Mechas + Anime styled bin a FPS...this is something we don't see everyday...yes the graphics is outdated but damn the gameplay and storyline is just awesome !!! I abused this game as a kid and I'm totally HAPPY to see this again !!! :D
5/5
Shogo is from a time when games were good. It doesn't have spectacular graphics or physics, but it's fun and even challenging. Avoid frustration though and remember to quick save. I like to play without a hud. Press the "+" key until it goes away. I'm only giving it a 4/5 because it wouldn't start correctly even in Win XP until I downloaded a program called CPU-Control which let me set it to only one processor and kept it stable. Then it worked fine.
