Pretty, But lacking.
So I never played the pen/paper rpg, but I did play the SNES and Genesis shadowrun games. This game seems to have take heavy inspiration from the SNES version.. personally I felt the Genesis version was superior. I was happy to see someone try to carry on the shadowrun games.. not that bastardized FPS that was made. I however came away wanting. Don't get me wrong it's not a bad game per'say but I expected more eh.. run's as it was. it's a very linear game, The SNES game was as well, you really only go on 1 actual run in the game every thing else is just along the way stuff. I personally felt the Genesis matrix combat was superior, but I don't necessarily have an issue with the direction they went in this game for that.. I do however take issue at just how little "decking" is in this game.. almost everything can be solved without it and there ain't much need or opportunity for it. You'll do best with just picking a street samruai build as almost everything boils down to gun play. The isometric perspective gives a retro feel and the art work is generally well done. The sound track is decent with lots of reworked versions of BGM from the SNES game. I do have to take issue that when you discover video or even pictures you just get text descriptions, very disappointing. The game is heavy on the text with no voice over, I guess it wasn't in the budget but that would have been nice. The game plays mostly like a detective game although it's completely on rails so there isn't much brain power required to actually solve it. The plot starts out interesting enough although at it's peak it becomes pretty absurd, I almost think the dev's started writing the story and then painted them selves into a corner and was like.. eh.. f'it and just went with it. For those who loved the SNES game you will feel right at home, if you was hoping for a more open game.. neg on that chummer. The devs did make it possible to create your own stories/mods so good on them for that.
