The game is a lot of fun. Lots of fun little easter eggs and pop culture references.
My only issues are: No save feature and I once deleted all my progress halfway through the game because the game doesn´t ask you if you want to overwrite your save game if you accidentally click on "NEW GAME" instead of "CONTINUE" absent-mindedly.
The game is a great throwback to the first FPS games: a mix of Catacomb 3D, Wolfenstien 3D, Doom1+2, and, in some regards, Quake. However, the graphics mostly resemble those of Wolfenstien, apart from a few modern touches. There's even the option to lock the Y-axis (no looking up or down) just like in the first FPS games. The action fast, the weapons satisfying, and the modern RPG elements give a sense of progression without being overly complicated. I can whole-heartedly recommend this game, but it's not flawless.
The game is very easy and, because of that, very short. I'm a casual fan of retro shooters and was able to beat this game in two afternoons on the hardest difficulty while dying only on the bosses and some later levels. There is some replayability with different skills and weapon upgrades and hunting for secrets or speedrunning if you are into those things (I am not) and Hardcore difficulty which erases your progress upon death.
You have a limited pool of lives and cannot save/load the game - this shouldn't be a problem (I've started with 3 lives and finished the game with 20+ lives) but the fact you cannot save whenever you desire might be a problem, although each level usually takes less than 10min. to finish (that's with exploring for secrets) and each stage consists of no more than 4 levels, but an option to save & quit would have been nice.
But those are IMHO the biggest gameplay problems this game has. If you dig the graphics and old-school shooting this one is very enjoyable.
... and thats what you get =) the music is sublime the graphic is amazing
the game has the right smoothness and feel of movement and weapons that you expect.
the retro style brings gaming back to shooters - the feeling is more real then in other modern fps games out there and project warlock is a modern shooter in a retro style that just drains your time away.
honestly, i much prefer this style of graphic for visceral shooters.
also the music is ... just perfect for the game.
only thing missing is reallocation of stat and upgrades from the "workshop"-area (the level hub of the game) - but do not let that drive you away from purchasing project warlock and have an eye out for what they cook up in the future.
i needed a game for my recurring shooter itch and project warlock is the right fix for me.
Game deserve 5 stars but ...
- when i fall in trap something worst happen and spawned zombie begin invulnerable ( bug)
- one of assault rifle upgrade really hurt
- Minimap give not info at all, and make the game hell maze for people with bad orientation ( like me)
There is more bad things cuz maybe crew is not experienced enough, i dont know for sure
Other then that is not boring experience, combat is fun and satisfying
Pick it up on the cheap and you should get high value/fun from this.
It's an enjoyable old school brain off shoot everything game with some nice variety in weapons and enemies.
Super fast levels, some are 60 seconds, others a few minutes. The start of the game is a bit difficult because you don't get much ammo at all. Once you start levelling up and collecint more weapons and spells it's a lot easier.
Fun game and you don't have to invest 100+ hrs of your life following markers on a map lol.
Awesome music too.
