A masterpiece

What a fantastic game. I couldn't resist replaying this classic after so many years since my first magical playthrough. This game still has lots to offer even today. At the time of its release, it was nothing short of spectacular - time rewinds, solid combat, story, and many hidden things, all on top of what is mostly a 3D platforming puzzle game. I'll only mention one thing that can be pretty irritating, especially considering how the game lacks some of the more modern QoL elements - the automatic targeting system can sometimes pick someone else than you'd want, so in combat, one of the most important things to learn is how to divide and lure enemies around so that you know who you're fighting. Other than that, it's an absolute joy to play, full of fun memorable moments. Gameplay neatly tied to the story, a captivating tale about personal growth, friendship, love, regrets... it does everything well! Out of all Prince of Persia games, this one is right at the top together with the very original title. Full of creativity, imaginitive and memorable scenes, that other games copied and people started taking for granted. This game does everything well, and doesn't have many weak parts - an example of great design from all aspects. Worth every minute!

A console game better left there

There's a lot to like about this initial re-imaging of PoP -- it looks nice for its age, and folks expecting a crafty, mid-difficulty modern platformer with some nice gimmicks will not be disappointed. Some of the climatic fights are a bit obnoxious, and some of the jumping puzzles require metronomic timing, but that's just par for the course with this game's genre. Unfortunately, it's wasted on the PC, and for one overwhelming reason: the controls stink on ice. Playing PoP with the keyboard and mouse is like trying to play tennis with a sledgehammer; theoretically possible, but otherwise useless. Unfortunately, plugging your handy controller (I used an XBox 360 wired controller) isn't much better. The game's responsiveness to the controller is all over the place and will lead to many a frustrating death as you merrily guide the titular Prince over deadly hazards fighting the controls. Pick it up cheap for that PS2 you have gathering dust in the closet, leave the PC version alone.

Classic Fun, But Imperfect Port

The Sands of Time, a fun & quick classic game. The ground breaking ability to rewind your mistakes through the collection of sand/defeating sand zombies... amazing! That being said the PC version does have a few flaws that need to be fixed before being able to play it. The fog and the ability to move diagonally were the most concerning aspects that I felt needed to be addressed. After that the game is playable... I will say the camera does tend to do some janky things but you learn how to play around it. I did find a way to alter the screen resolution to fit my moniter better but it played well before I found the fix. I used an Xbox One controller and everything worked fine for me.

Not buying the nostalgia.

I can't rate this game any higher because the camera implementation is godawful which makes the rather clunky combat a chore to get through. It's honeslty amazing how bad the game feels to play considering that, by 2003, the world had figured out how to do cameras and controls in 3D games. Yeah, the art style has aged well, the music is nice, many of the navigational puzzles are interesting to figure out, but when you're consantly fighting against the camera, the generally poor mouse and keyboard controls (the game won't recognize my Xbox gamepad despite supposedly supporting gamepads) and the uninspired combat design, the game soon turns from fun to frustrating.

Gameplay is still solid 21 years later

Story holds up solidly, and the gameplay dispite the sensitive bug only ruins some of the puzzles. This game does have resolution issue where the display will strench to fill the screen and is capped at 4:3 ratio 1024 x 768. But no biggy, What is a biggy is at least on my graphic card AMD Randon 5500XT ASUS OC the fog is completely broken so I had to disable it, which does change the look of some scenes completely. While I remember most of the set piece moments it's the moments in between that had me at was that there? And the prince is as charming as ever. The only thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is the technical issues of this port on modern hardware, it's not deal breaking certainly more than playable but sadly does take away from the game.
