One of the best CRPGs
If you like BG, you will love this. I have been thinking about and playing this game since it came out, and it still has me hooked. The characters and voice acting is amazing. The RTwP combat is almost perfect, sometimes the pathing isn't the best but it is close to perfection. The music in this game is incredible and on the level of FF7. If you haven't played this, or just want it on GOG this is a must buy.

Great story but horrible programming
The storyline is easily the best since Planescape: Torment. Unfortunately, the constant freezes that persist five years after the game was released makes the game next to unplayable. Get used to frequent freezes that last for 10-15-20 seconds. During the final scene, the game froze several times during the dialogue and then again after every five seconds of battle. Fix this problem and you'll earn the last two stars.

Very good so far!
This a great game so far. I'm enjoying it. A few things: What I liked especially so far is that weapon proficiencies are not tied to class. This is amazing compared to the old AD&D CRPGs. It's so liberating. However, for immersion sake, it would've been nice to at least be able to select some weapon proficiency at the beginning as an option because, let's face it, growing up, a character could learn to use certain weapons better than others. Maybe a weapon proficiency at the expense of something else. Many people had issues with the story. "Too much reading" and "It's boring" or "I don't care what's happening". About the reading; there's no more really than previous CRPGs. I found it more or less on par so no complaints. However, I can see why people would not care about the story. Structurally, video game stories need to take after screenplays. The inciting incident has to relate personally to the main character. Curiosity alone isn't enough motivation. Why is your main character traveling in the first place? Maybe his town got overrun and he's migrating to be with the rest of his family who he finds out were slaughtered when he gets there. Revenge, looking for someone/something important to him, etc, etc... as far as I can tell you're character is just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's not personal enough. Also, I'm on the fence about the lack of weight and encumbrance. It definitely makes things easier. I don't know... Otherwise great job, love everything else. Thanks!

A brilliant RPG!
The character customization is really in depth: not only do you pick a class and a race (like many other RPG's) but you also get to customize the history of every character you create, THE HISTORY which can also be mentioned in dialogue as you continue to play the game. The game mechanics are very engaging; the fighting never gets old and the world is vast with mystery, puzzles, dungeons and followers to recruit as you adventure. Games like this aren't made too often today. It's really sad to see that Obsidian had to make a kickstarter for the game since games like this shouldn't even need one. I suppose if you want a good game these days, you have to fund it yourself which I'm glad so many people did otherwise I wouldn't be able to experience this. This game tips its hat to the old school RPG games while also providing a really good modern experience. Pick it up, you won't regret it! :)

Masterpiece
You can see right away how much detail and work went into this game. I personally prefer Pillars 1 over Pillars 2. I've played multiple playthroughs and absolutely love this game. I already have this on Steam but i am buying this again on GOG because it is Christmas. Merry Christmas Obsidian team!
