NOT 4 THE UNEDUCATED

I really wanna like this game. Don't get me wrong, Its a good game, and its almost a great one. First off, Im only about 25 hours in, and only lv 3. So it moves very slowly. That's kinda a good thing in some ways. Feels like it makes you really work for things. Your choices in character build and development is crucial to even be able to play for more than 5 minutes without dying. I literally had to research the rule set and character builds for a few hours to even be able to play. Im a huge fan of Icewind dale, Baldurs gate, Pillars of eternity etc. This game is waaaaaay more strict to the tabletop rules than any of those. Maybe that's your thing. The game could be amazing if they'd just help you out a little more in the beginning. You can literally create a character and level them in ways that make it impossible to hit anything, and impossible to play. You really need to know the mechanics and the rules, or you'll just die and miss everything. And why the hell do you move so slow? That was one reason I loved Pillars so much, you can double time your walking speed. It feels like your walking in slow motion. I dont know, I really want to like it and Im going to keep on going hoping things progress a bit more. This game is not for the faint hearted, or uneducated! Very very difficult game if your new to tabletops D&D style games and rules.

Broken at Release

This game has a lot of potential, but unfortunately was not tested properly before launch. As it stands, it is riddled with bugs, broken quests, and game play issues. In time, after many patches, it may become what it was intended to be. I would recommend researching the current state of the game before purchasing this. This game finally taught me to wait for release (rather than pre-ordering). The pre-order bonuses don't mean much if the game doesn't work.

What could have been...

A ok to good game, it could have been amazing. I hope they will improve it. The Good The game looks amazing. Models change with the equipment, voice acting of ok, Amari is not good at all. The story is very good. The decisions and challenges of kingdom management is well done. The OK Kingdom management is ok. When you build buildings in the towns, you should be able to actually see those buildings. The WTHECK! Alignment choices, sometimes you are forced to make a choice that moves you away from your alignment when you could have abstained. The vendors do not change their inventories. You have to navigate the junk you sold to get to what you wish. The chest management is bad. You cannot organize your overflow storage, but you can your part storage. Romance. You are forced for only 2 ladies as a man, neither are really appealing. No Amari romance? That could have been quite funny. Combat is very inconsistant. Stay away from swarms...The difficultly of some areas is rough, perhaps a bit realistic, but detracts from the fun of it. There really should be customization of your castle. The ability to remodel your castle would be a beautiful facet to an imperfect gem. A good game, not a great one. Did they really playtest this? I hope to update this after a few patches.

Good oldschool rpg

One of the best games in this category since Baldurs Gate/NWN. I can't find any bugs atm, so it seems that they fixed a lot. Very good appliance of the Pathfinder rpg rules. It is shurely an advantage if you know this rules. Lots of possible caracters to create. The game ist quite hard for for this day and age, and sometimes you have to load a savegame oder avoid an area until you are at higher level. But i can recommend it for evreybody who likes Baldurs Gate/NWN/Pillars of Eternity/Divinity etc..

A rough gem in need of polish.

I have recently finished the game and can certainly echo the few of the comments here. 1) State of the game 2 stars but getting better. It was really rushed out the door - the initial release had a ton of bugs and lots of them game breaking. As the patches have come out this has gotten incrementally better but I experienced several issues particularly with companion quests that meant I could not progress that aspect of the game. This has flow on effects towards the end of the game which is pretty disappointing and frustrating. If you purchase the game now, it is likely you will not experience the same level of frustration as it has been patched. 2) Difficulty curve 2 stars ... wow there are some SERIOUS difficulty spikes during the campaign with a few of the fights just outright retarded. You need to very carefully tailor your equipment loadout and spells to even have a chance of surviving some of the fights on challenging (which you will only learn through numerous wipes!). Early game is particularly punishing at times. For those struggling I found duel wielding backstabbing toons to be particularly strong particularly with some of the available party feats. 3) Kingdom management 3 stars - you can disable it if you want to - definitely needs some tweaking as it can be a bit painful at times. You will probably want to persist with it because there are some good items/buffs you can get through it. 4) Story line 4 stars - I actually thought this was pretty good, deep backstories to the characters and an interesting plot. 5) Value for money 4 stars - I think I was at almost 120 hours when I finally finished the game on a single run through, That is a mammoth campaign in this day and age where most games top out at 20-40hrs. Overall 3 stars but believe that as it is patched and tweaked it will evolve into a 4 star. If you love CPRG's you are definitely going to want to add this to your list.
