My Friend Pedro

What you got here is a 2D twin stick shooter that favours style over substance. The premise is simple. You play as some dude who can see a talking banana (Pedro) who encourages him to go on a gangsters killing spree. That's it! On top of that, the visuals aren't much to look at either, leaving you with the game-play. And for any platform shooter fan, this will really scratch the itch. Instead of blasting your way from level to level, the game encourages you to dive, jump and flip while utilising the slow down mechanic. Overall, the fun is in having to pull of these stylish, badarse manoeuvres along with using the environment and array of weapons to your advantage. I did have fun, it is just different enough to keep me engaged. However, I had to endure multiple crashes again and again. Real shame, because I would have loved to squeeze more out of this. Worth the price if you like your twin stick shooters.

An engaging, fast paced, action packed 2d shooter. The game makes you feel like your in a John Woo movie, with dual wielding guns, slo mo, and environmental hazards to mess up the criminal underworld. All with a talking banana to guide you! The game is a decent length to make sure you got your money's worth, and I enjoy the replayability with the scoring system. A must play for 2019!

Hi All! Thanks for reading my review. I really enjoyed my time with My Friend Pedro as it succeed in its design to create a badass simulator but it isn't without it's flaws. This game is best described in 3 parts. 1. The first third of the game is an adrenaline filled romp with bullets flying everywhere as you flip, spin and shoot your way to the end of the level, its fantastic. 2. The middle of the game starts to introduce new mechanics that keeps the action fresh, although it also starts to introduce what I would describe as 'slow moments' where you're forced to either stop or die and work out how to proceed. These moments, in my opinion, break up the action abit too much and the tone and flow of the game suffers 3. In the final act we're introduced to enemies that take far more bullets to be killed and as a result the game pressures you to use one particular weapon just to survive. This would be fine if you could dual wield said weapon(s) but unfortunately you can't. Once again this breaks the flow of combat along with the design of the later stages being made more hazard filled with one hit death traps. This last act is easily the weakest of the three. All in all My Friend Pedro is good as what it does, making you feel like an absolute badass. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking for an mindless, action fueled bit of fun with its longevity found in its score-attack based design. -Mick

It has a nice skill ceiling if you're looking for something you can replay multiple times over a long weekend. Split-aiming, dodge twirling, and knowing when to use the slo-mo to your advantage. A great first game from this dev.

My Friend Pedro is high adrenaline fun. Pulling off the many moves in the game is satisfying and entertaining to look at. Twirling down a rope while you shoot enemies surrounding you is amazing. Kicking a frying pan into the air to richochet bullets off of is action movie levels of slick. Each level usually introduces a new element or contains a themed component. The game features high replayabilty, score chasing, and multiple difficulties. The weakest part of the game, easily the story, serves its purpose to drive the character forward.
